789: A Pokémon of a Different Color!   795: Ibuki to Airisu! Irochigai Kurimugan!   Shine(y) Get!                 The twerps meet Clair again and encounter a Shiny Druddigon   Totally legit if they'd just used a Pokéball!   Nobody is impressed by you throwing a tantrum, calm down!

Today finds the twerps approaching yet another island - this one imaginatively titled "Cave Island" due to.... there being a big cave on the island. Wow. What an exciting name. Alexa steps up to improve on Porter's rather sell-job by noting that the cave is well-known for the large variety of Pokémon that can be found in the island, and of course the twerps excitedly decide they want to explore it.

But as they disembark, the forever disorganised Alexa freaks out as she realises she hasn't gathered any of the equipment she'll need for her filming. She calls out Gogoat, leaps onto its back and waves goodbye to the twerps (echoed by Helioptile) as she sets off to sort out the gear she needs, saying she'll see them later. Ash calls futilely after her, but she's gone, and with a smile Cilan says that is that, since they have no idea where the cave is themselves and surely nobody on CAVE FUCKING ISLAND could possibly know either.

As they stand pathetically about with no idea what to do, Ash spots a familiar face as a woman in very tight clothes wanders about calling for her Dragonite. She spots Ash too and instantly recognises him - it's Clair from Blackthorn City! Yes, even though it was over 500 episodes ago (so about 4 months in the show's time!) she remembers the guy whose Charizard bitchslapped down Dragonite's Attack Rage and taught it to calm the fuck down.

Iris is delighted of course, as an aspiring Dragon Master she has heard of the Blackthorn City Gym. Clair says a happy hello to Axew and shakes his paw, peering at him and commenting that he has been raised well. Iris reveals she knows about Clair's Gym, and explains she studied with Drayden... does Clair know him? Of course she does, though she hasn't met him yet, planning to do so once she gets through her business - she's looking for a Druddigon of a different colour, one spotted in this area. That explains why she isn't at her fucking Gym which some poor bastard and his friends have just meandered across Johto to challenge at, and of course the twerps all want to help her out. She can't get going till she finds her Dragonite though, which has flown away on a whim, so Ash and Iris call out Charizard and Dragonite to help in the search. Iris hugs her Dragonite with one fixed on Clair to see what she thinks of HER Dragonite.

Both dragons take to the air and set off in search, watched from some nearby crates by Team Rocket who are very interested to hear about a uniquely coloured Druddigon - catching that would be a real coup for them, so that's what they're going to do!

Dragonite spots Clair's Dragonite sleeping blissfully in a field of flowers and lands to loom over it, grumpy that it is "sleeping on the job". When Clair's Dragonite spots it standing on the flowers, it grumpily shoves him away and the two instantly get up in each others' grill. Charizard spots them and heads back to let the twerps know, and they arrive to find the two getting ready to throw down. Charizard tries to break them up and is shoved back, pissing him off which is a BAAAAAAD idea, and so Clair and Iris have to run in to try and simmer down tensions. Clair spots one of the crushed flowers and realises this is the source of her Dragonite's anger, and Iris' Dragonite seems to feel pretty bad about it - after all, he has a soft spot for weaker things himself.

But Cilan sees a whole different angle on the thing. As the others look on (Charizard looks incredibly smug, perhaps remembering the time he put Clair's Dragonite in its place) Cilan goes on a happy little bit of fantasising. Clair's Dragonite is female, and Iris' is male, and he's seen enough films to know that.... they're falling in love!

Of course his basis for this is his own speculation about their adventures together that they haven't had! and Iris and Clair are both less than impressed by their exposure to Cilan - Shipping Connoisseur!

Ash, who has no idea what is going on, points out happily that now they can go find that odd-coloured Druddigon. Clair is happy to have them along, and brings them down the path to the cave entrance at last. As they approach though, rustling in the bushes gets their attention and they watch on startled as they're pass by frantic Drilburs, Foongus, Venipedes, Roggenrolas and Woobats. What is the cause of their fright? Clair and the twerps head in to find out, while we're provided the answer by way of handy exposition from James.

It seems Team Rocket have set up a machine at the back of the cave that generates Pokémon-repelling waves (hey, it's "Repel" from the games!). They've even put little corks into Meowth's ears, pulling them out makes him freak out over the noise till they slap them back inside, causing him to shout out at them not to mess with him. The cave is filled with many, many interconnecting tunnels making it a nightmare to search/traverse, but there are only two exits. So Team Rocket have sealed off one, meaning eventually that odd-coloured Druddigon will have to exit this way, and they'll be ready to capture it.

The twerps have discovered this for themselves, as they find the entrance on their side of the cave system sealed up tight (where did those frantic Pokémon come from then?). Angry, Clair calls out Dragonite (as does Iris) and the two grumble at each other as they both try to grab at the door. Ash once again sends in Charizard to try and help out, and both Dragonite slap him aside. Charizard doesn't like that of course but tries to hold his temper, waddling back in only to be slapped aside again. NOW he is getting pissed, while Ash desperately tries to calm him down and Cilan giggles. Ash recalls Charizard to his Pokéball, while the two Dragonite haul the door away and toss it aside. But then the Pokémon suddenly wince in agony, affected by the Repel Machine now. Clair picks up the sound waves on a device and she and Iris recall their Dragonites, Iris telling Axew to hide in her hair from the soundwaves while Ash puts his cap on Pikachu (dawww) to block out the noise.

They head inside the cave, following the soundwaves through Clair's device, pondering if the Druddigon lives inside and whether it has already run. Iris spots some grooves in the nearby rocks and points out that these are left by Druddigon's wings - so there are Druddigon in this cave at least, and maybe the odd-coloured one as well. Everybody is impressed with Iris' observation, and Cilan enthusiastically points out that Iris has been handpicked by Drayden as a potential replacement for himself at the Opelucid Academy one day. Iris is less than pleased at the backhanded compliment though, since Cilan preceded it with "looks may be deceiving". Ash points out she is also going to be the next Elder at the Village of Dragons, though Iris quietly points out that this has yet to be decided. Clair is intrigued though, so Iris is from the Village of Dragons? So is it her destiny to be a Dragon Master? Not quite, Iris explains that as a child she was actually terrified of Dragon-Types, till one rainy day she hid out in a cave. She heard a Druddigon at the back of the cave and was scared, until she realised that it sounded in pain. She approached and found a clearly pained Druddigon, which immediately used Flamethrower on her! What happened next? They'll have to wait to get the rest of the story, as Clair has just spotted the Repel Machine ahead. She shuts it down, and out the other side of the cave James immediately picks up on his own device that the soundwaves have stopped. They take the corks out of Meowth's ears and he feels no pain, which means the device has definitely stopped... but why?

Meowth heads into the cave to see if a Pokémon knocked the device over, but is running back out almost immediately with a squeal. He's closely followed by a pissed off green and orange Druddigon, which apparently was pretty close to emerging when the machine was shut down... and now it's not in pain, it's just pissed off!

James calls out Amoonguss and Jesse brings out Frillish, and they attempt a Stun Spore Bubble Beam combo to take the dragon-type down, but this just seems to piss off. Frillish does its best to hold Druddigon in place with Psychic, and Amoonguss uses Body Slam... which consists of slamming its junk into Druddigon's face over and over again!

Clair and twerps emerge to this homoerotic abuse, Team Rocket mocking them for being too late. Clair warns them that their attacks are just going to enrage Druddigon but they don't listen... till they spot that Druddigon IS getting pissed. Bizarrely, instead of trying to use a Pokéball, they pull out a giant net-gun and open fire, but too late!

Druddigon unleashes a massive burst of energy, and yep Team Rocket are blasting off again! Ash is delighted, but Iris notes that Druddigon is still in a rage, so what do they do? Iris' first thought is to call out her Dragonite, but Clair stops her, warning that battling head-on will just make things worse. She approaches Druddigon and attempts to calm it with words, and it backhands her and sends her flying a dozen feet! She warns the rest of the twerps to keep their distance, saying she is fine... but now SHE is angry! She storms up to Druddigon and gets right in its face, warning it that it is being a big baby. Yes Team Rocket did a horrible thing but they're gone now, and the machine has been shut down, so calm the fuck down and stop being a douchebag!

It responds by smacking her again!

Apparently Clair is into that type of abuse though, as she gets back up and laughs that the attacks aren't doing shit. She tells the twerps to keep their distance, she is fine, and approaches again, telling it that she can feel its heart opening up to her bit by bit. As she approaches again, Iris tells Ash and Cilan that the same thing happened to her. When the Druddigon from so long ago used Flamethrower on her, she dodged and was frightened, but she could see that there was something wrong with Druddigon. Spotting that it had a clearly injured leg, she headed back out into the rain to find some herbal remedies (not marijuana!). Returning to the cave, she'd slowly approached and calmed the Druddigon, convincing it to let her place the remedy on its knee and ease the pain. She gave it a berry to eat, her only concern wanting to make the Druddigon feel better, not having time to be scared.

Back in the present, Clair puts her hands on Druddigon's jaw and tells it calmly that everything is all right. She knows why it was upset, but things are okay now. Placing her cheek against Druddigon's, it closes its eyes and visibly relaxes, calming down from its rage.

Iris is pleased, saying that while Druddigon's look scary they are really sweethearts. Back in the day after healing her Druddigon, she'd rushed through the forest to get back to the Village before the Elder got upset with her for being late. She'd tripped on a Scolipede which had loomed over her angrily, only to be blasted by flamethrower by the Druddigon, returning the favour. From that point on she'd started to like Dragon-Types, something that Ash understands, there is nothing better than making a connection with a Pokémon. They spot the cave Pokémon returning happily to their home now that the machine is shut down, and Clair happily tells Druddigon that having got to know it, she no longer feels the need to capture it. But Druddigon has a different idea, it likes this nice lady in the skin-tight clothing, and wants to come along. So she catches it with a Pokéball, adding another Dragon to her collection.

They return to the ship to disembark, Alexa horrified to discover that she missed such great action, moaning,"Why didn't you take me with you!?!" as Helioptile sighs. She asks Clair if she can please see the odd-coloured Druddigon, and films as much of the bemused Dragon as she can while Clair says her goodbyes to the twerps. Clair plans to head on to pay a visit to Drayden and also pop in to the Village of Dragons. She promises to pass on Iris' message that she is doing well, while Cilan calls to Alexa that the ship is about to leave and she needs to get onboard, and Helioptile does its best to keep Alexa between it and the terrifying green and orange, giant-jawed dragon creature. I get the feeling it is quite happy to have missed out on all the "action" this time.
