Axew gets lost and Oshawott steals some homeless Pokémon’s apples
Nope
Don't eat food you find in an alleyway, Jesus Christ!
Today finds Ash.... already fighting in Round 2 of the Unova League! Using Scraggy, he defeats his opponent (who doesn't have a name or soul of his own) and his Darumaka to progress through to Round 3! Scraggy's training has really paid off, and Ash and Pikachu are delighted, as are the packed crowds watching. Stephan, Cameron and Virgil also defeat their opponents and make it through to the next round, watched by Cilan and Iris in the stands along with Bianca, who was knocked out of the League last episode.
The Top 16 are randomly paired off, and the laws of shit-shit-shit-shit-fuck means that Ash will be facing... Stephan! Both are surprised but then delighted, looking forward to throwing down against each other again. But we know what this means, one of them HAS to go out in the third round, one of them will be...
The crowds disperse for the day, Cilan, Iris and Bianca amongst them. The former two are talking about Ash and Stephan's upcoming battle when Bianca suddenly screams, telling them that she only just remembered that she can get Castelia Cones today. Iris reminds her that they're in Vertress City, not Castelia, but Bianca isn't having a Cameron-Moment, Cilan explains that many businesses that are usually only found in certain locations come to the Unova League to sell their goods. Excited, Bianca drives those mighty hips of hers forward, eager for some ice cream, Iris saying they should go and do a little shopping later as well. Cilan agrees, while Axew's attention is caught by the most desirable and wanted thing that any small child could ever see - a balloon! A RED balloon!
Ash and Stephan are making defiant but good-natured claims about their strengths when Cameron catches their attention. He and Riolu seem set to disappear again, and they remind him he is still in the tournament! He hasn't forgotten, but today is Fireworks Day, and he and Riolu are planning to get the best spot to watch. He and Riolu rush away, and Ash admits that the fireworks do sound like fun. Stephan agrees, but he is planning to spend the rest of the day in the sauna, working up a strategy sweat. Cilan and Iris arrive to congratulate Ash and Pikachu happily leaps down to the floor to have a chat with Axew.... and realises that Axew isn't there! He gets Ash's attention and Ash again demonstrates his remarkably deep bond with Pikachu as he instantly figures out that Pikachu is looking for Axew. For the first time, Iris realises that Axew isn't on her shoulder or in her hair, he's disappeared!
Where is he? Happily stumbling in his toddler-like way after the balloon, babbling his name in an attempt to convince the balloon to turn around and float down to him and be his friend and let him hug it. Forcing his way through the gathered crowd, he loses sight of the balloon and then finally realises he has lost contact with Iris as well. Excited people babbling get his attention and he turns to see a group of people in hideous lime-green kimonos and orange party hats celebrating. The trainer from their village - a pudgy young fellow named Russet - is the first to ever make it to Round 3 of the Unova League in 25 years, and they're having a celebration.
Axew approaches a fat older woman, perhaps hoping she can help him, but she doesn't think there is anything strange about a little Pokémon stumbling about on its own and just assumes he wants to party with them. She quickly dons on a little matching costume for Axew that she just happened to have lying around, and then grabs Axew by the paw and joins the others in charging out of the building to go have their celebration.
The twerps are rushing around trying to find him, sweating slightly as they fail to spot him. Cilan suggests he might have gone back to the dormitory but Iris knows Axew wouldn't have done that alone. Virgil happens to arrive and asks what is going on - he's a member of the Pokémon Rescue Squad so this is probably the best thing that could have happened short of being responsible and going to see Officer fucking Jenny or something.
Team Russet storm down between the stalls outside of the main arena, looking for food for their party. Axew slips loose, dizzy from the speed and movement, and staggers over to a stall selling milkshakes and try to catch a breath. The man in the stall is from Nacrene City's "Cafe Warehouse" and he offers Axew a complimentary soda, telling him it'll make him happy happy.
Elsewhere, a Garbodor staggers her hideous way down the street, stopped by a kindly woman with a carton of apples. She offers them to the clearly hungry monstrosity, and tells her that she can come back for food any time she wants. This is very nice of the woman, especially considering how hideously disgusting and unpleasant Garbodor appears. Pleased, Garbodor trudges down into an alleyway and calls out her equally hideous children - 4 Trubbish who swarm the box and start eating.
Virgil has taken the twerps to the surveillance room of the Arena, where an accommodating security guard is going over the many cameras' footage. Of course such a big event would need security, but it's still slightly disturbing to see just how many cameras are set up all over the place, recording everything. Cilan starts to get a little over-enthusiastic about the mystery of what happened to Axew, letting his imagination run away with him as he imagines Axew in the hands of shadowy figures (Team Rocket?) and declares that it's DETECTIVE TIME.... only for Iris to shut him up, telling him it is hard to think with him going on and on. He's immediately chastened, and to be fair it's a pretty fair reaction from Iris - her Pokémon is missing, this isn't the time for Cilan to be going over the top.
Iris spots something, Team Russet rushing through the Arena, Axew being carried along in the wake by the paw. Surprisingly, when they zoom in on the image it remains pixelated, as it seems that animated "kid's" show Pokémon understands the limitations of "ZOOM! ENHANCE!" better than the likes of CSI and Law & Order! Virgil figures they're heading for the center of the city (or the exit of the Arena!) and they head out to follow, not bothering to use the clearly extensive security network to have a cop or guard put out the word to the easily spotted Team Russet to return the Axew to his trainer.
In the market, Bianca is sitting enjoying a Castelia Cone when she spots Axew with his soda just across the way. Axew eagerly approaches the familiar face and she shouts out how cute he looks in his hat, but then Team Russet comes charging by again, and Axew finds himself caught up in their fleshy folds (ewwww!), leaving behind a confused Bianca.
Cameron has set up his tent ON a lakeside path, the best spot to see his fireworks he is sure. To his and Riolu's horror, Team Russet come rumbling past, smashing through the tent (sure it is ON the path but even so, don't just go through it!) and continuing on their merry way, Riolu bouncing about on the spot in shock. Axew is still trapped in-between the tightly packed bodies, but has left behind his little hat.
In the market near a fountain, the twerps are calling out for Axew without any luck. They do hear Bianca though, who eagerly rushes up holding a couple of Castelia Cones, one for her and one for Ash (awwww!). Ash is close to a body of water and so is clearly terrified by Bianca's looming presence, justified when she trips on a discarded soda can. She stumbles forward, clutching tenaciously to the cones, and it looks for all the world like Ash is going to get a faceful or handful of Bianca boob when she manages to twist around to face the other direction at the last second. Unfortunately, due to those wide ol' hips, this doesn't prevent her from bumping him and he is sent over into the fountain (Pikachu is able to leap clear of course). Bianca is horrified, apologising profusely and bowing while Ash grunts that - like many fans - he's getting a little sick of this running gag.
Learning that Axew is missing, she tells a desperate Iris which way she saw him being carried along and the twerps are quickly off on the hunt once again. Bianca leaps from foot to foot frantically, wanting to follow them along but unsure what to do with her Castelia Cone, and finally she offers it to Virgil, much to Eevee's delight.
Iris calls out Emolga to search for Axew (I guess Unfezant is back with Juniper) and Ash brings out Scraggy, since he's good buddies with Axew. Oshawott pops out too, proudly bopping his scalchop when Ash asks if he wants to help find Axew. Well, he wants to be in on the action, whatever that is! He, Pikachu and Scraggy rush off in pursuit of Emolga, as the twerps' plan to find their missing Pokémon is to send more of their Pokémon out there alone.
As the sun sets, Team Russet have settled down for a picnic near the lake. As their leader leads them all along in a clapping chant, the old woman offers Axew a bowl of tasty looking food. He spots a nearby trainer giving her Lillipup some food which immediately puts him in mind of Iris, which immediately makes him miserable.
In the city, Pikachu and Scraggy are trying to question a sleeping Stoutland while Oshawott wanders down an alleyway and startles the feeding Trubbish. They rush away in alarm to hide, while an oblivious Oshawott toddles on down and discovers the apples. Being Oshawott, he thinks nothing of eating food he found in a fucking alleyway, and being Oshawott he thinks nothing of stuffing his face despite being a well-fed, loved and looked after Pokémon.
The Stoutland is awake at last and telling Pikachu and Scraggy he hasn't seen Axew when Emolga returns with a Swoobat and better news, they have a lead on where to find Axew. Oshawott is stuffed full in the alleyway, having scoffed down all the apples that the apparently starving Trubbish were taking their time to eat. He hears Pikachu calling and stumbles up, taking his bloated belly out of the alleyway and joining the other Pokémon, spotted by the kindly local woman.
At the lake, the older woman is offering encouragement to Russet when she realises that Oshawott is gone again. Where is he? Having remembered Iris, he's rushed away in a panic to try and find her, but only managed to get more lost than before.
Garbodor returns to the alley, having picked up some balloons (green, not red, what is this bullshit?) to give to her revolting children as presents. She discovers them in a state of depression, they've had their food taken from them, the four of them outnumbered by a single, smaller, oblivious otter.
Back at the lake, Cameron and Riolu finish putting the tent back up, Axew's hat sticking off of the roof. Satisfied with their work, they turn to find the twerps STARING at the tent, or more specifically the hat. Iris leaps through the air, crashing onto the tent and knocking it to the ground. Cameron is horrified, while Iris' only concern is the hat, which indicates Axew came this way. Still, was it really necessary to be so dramatic about it? Cilan examines the hat and deduces that it is exactly the hat they saw in the grainy, pixelated and black and white image of the security camera! She ignores Cameron's protests and demands to know which way Axew went, and since we can't be sure he actually noticed Axew when Team Russet ran over him, his,"That way... maybe?" reply indicates he honestly has no idea which way Axew went, or if Axew even came by at all! They rush off, leaving him to fall to all fours in depression at what happened to his tent, Riolu gently patting him on the head.
In the woods nearby the lake, a miserable Axew has removed his costume and is sitting under a tree depressed. As tears fill his eyes, he hears Emolga and turns to see Pikachu, Scraggy and Oshawott approaching. Delighted, he hugs Pikachu... but danger isn't far behind! Garbodor and the Trubbish have tracked Oshawott down, and they want revenge!
Bianca and Virgil are still in the city, apparently her eagerness to join the twerps didn't last after she gave her Castelia Cone to Virgil, and the two of them are walking together looking out for Axew... or at least the twerps themselves. They spot the kindly woman by the entrance to the alley, and Virgil notices her concern and asks what is wrong. She explains about the Trubbish and Garbodor that have been living there, but now they are nowhere to be seen, and she knows it is something to do with that Oshawott. This gets their attention, and she explains she saw an "impertinent" Oshawott (haha! That's Oshawott!) with a Pikachu and an Emolga, and they were definitely up to something.
The Garbodor chases the Pokémon to the edge of a cliff overlooking the water, they don't want to fight and Pikachu keeps trying to talk reason, but it's pissed off and in no mood to hear it. She and the Trubbish approach, the sounds of her attacks and the Pokémon’s yelling overheard by the twerps who have just spotted Axew's discarded ribbon. At the cliff, Axew and Scraggy stand together as brothers to fight to the end, and Oshawott is alongside Emolga, but Pikachu continues to play peacemaker - why does Garbodor hate them? The Trubbish give the answer, explaining about Oshawott eating all their apples, and the greedy little otter has the decency to look horrified at learning what he did. The other Pokémon aren't impressed either, to put it lightly.
Oshawott runs forward to apologise, blushing deeply and bowing, but Garbodor doesn't want apologies, she wants apples! She blasts an attack at Oshawott who blocks it with his scalchop and forgets himself, looking delighted with himself until he is swamped by attacks from the Trubbish. He's sent flying and the others surround him to check on his condition, while the twerps finally arrive on the scene, almost reunited with their Pokémon. But Garbodor strikes, knocking them over the edge of the cliff towards the water, and the twerps can only watch... until Virgil shows up to save the day like the twerps are incompetent idiots who can't do anything right. Espeon has used Psychic to bring the Pokémon back up to the cliff, while Virgil (with Bianca) explains that Oshawott ate the Trubbishs' apples. Not knowing Oshawott, Virgil assumes that Oshawott was hungry, not knowing he's just a glutton. Ash isn't impressed, demanding to know if this is true from Oshawott who is embarrassed to admit it is.
Ash steps up in front of Garbodor and offers his apology, on his behalf as well as Oshawott's, but Garbodor isn't listening. She prepares to attack again, and once again Virgil is the one to save the day, because apparently he can do anything and is totally cool and on top of everything and uhhhh shitttttt I have a bad feeling about this dude and the Unova League.
Using Sooth Bell, he calms Garbodor down. With her rage subsided (and the Trubbishs as well), the twerps talk about how great Virgil is (a reaallllllll bad feeling) while Bianca wiggles her ass about in excitement. They return with the trashy Pokémon to the alleyway, night well and truly fallen by now, and bring them a huge assortment of fruit and specially prepared food made by Cilan. Oshawott brings in a bowl of food as well, but can't resist reaching for some only to get slapped on the back of the head by Pikachu.
The fireworks begin, Cameron had the night right after all. Bianca and Virgil call to the other twerps to join them, while Cameron and Riolu watch the display from their finally erected tent. A shiny Stephan leaves the sauna chugging milk when he notices the fireworks, which he'd forgotten all about earlier. Team Russet watches from the band as well, a tiny girl amongst them all tuckered out and sleeping against her mother's side. Another child is sleeping in the arms of the old woman who took a shine to Axew, and she notices Axew being carried in a similar fashion by Iris and is pleased to see the cute little Pokémon ended up okay after all. Axew spots her too and beams a smile at her as well.
With the display over, Ash returns to the hotel and puts through a call to Juniper who offers him luck. He's after another Pokémon to use for his 3-on-3 battle against Stephan the next day.
Before we know it, it IS the next day! Ash and Stephan are the first to battle for the round, which means the best match will be happening right at the start of the day. Stephan surprises Ash by calling out his first Pokémon - a Liepard, the evolved form of Purrloin (which Cilan fears). This isn't something that Ash had anticipated when working out his strategy, but - being Ash - he finds the monkeywrench in his plans an exciting element to deal with. As he calls out his first Pokémon, we reach the end of the episode and will have to wait to see what comes next. Ash and Stephan are the first two of sixteen top competitors, including Cameron, Virgil (shiitttttttt), Russet, a bunch of people who don't have names or souls or reasons to live AND what appears to be Akuma Junior - Dino, who has appeared in previous episodes. Which of them will make it through to Round 4? Who will win the entire thing? Will Ash make it through? Will Cameron blunder his way through and negate everything Ash has achieved so far in his life? Will Stephan defeat Ash? Will Virgil be the spoiler he seems to be so obviously designed to be? Will Dino Akuma Jr. it up? Will Russet give his hometown even more reason to be proud? Will one of the other nameless competitors earn a name and a parody of a soul? We'll have to wait to see, because this is:
