MORAL LEARNT
750: Unova's Survival Crisis!   756: Reiju Forumu Soshingeki! Isshu Saidai no Kiki!   Godvianni                 Giovanni gets overpowered and decides to DESTROY the Unova Region   They fought the Boss!   Being polite solves all problems

Last episode saw all hell break loose, as Giovanni arrived in Unova and proceeded to kick Ash's ass and take total control of the situation. Playing a recording of Meloetta's happy song while the miserable real thing was crucified on a glowing star altar, Giovanni was given access to the Reveal Glass which will enable him to summon (and presumably control) "the three powers". What does that mean? Well it involves Giovanni so I'm picking it means...

The Reveal Glass glows as Giovanni looks into it, and the roof of the Temple opens, leaving Meloetta floating in mid-air in the star-shaped concave in the stone tablet. Giovanni demands that the Reveal Glass summon the three powers, and Meloetta screams as energy runs through her. Ash calls out to her from his energy-cube prison, while Zager and the Team Rocket trio revel in Giovanni's control.

But as he summons the three powers, another kind of power is coming right for them. Cynthia is in her boat (piloted by Jervis), bringing Cilan, Iris and Ridley (but no Officer Jenny? And where are the police boats? Surely they called the cops?) with her. They know where Meloetta is thanks to Ridley's connect with her, but that has a downside too as he recoils in pain, feeling what she is feeling.

Back at the Temple, Ash is calling out to Meloetta to "snap out of it" but it isn't like she wants this to happen, she's under Giovanni's control. The stone tablet/altar turns in the air and a beam of energy bursts out of Meloetta's body, creating a portal in the sky showing stormy clouds. It's seen from the boat as Cynthia approaches, and Ridley (finally!) reveals what Team Rocket are after - it's not Meloetta, it's what she can do - summon three Legendary Pokémon. He explains the Reveal Glass and its power, which once was controlled by the Chief Protector through Meloetta. But evil people sought to control that power and fought over it, and realising that she was the root cause of it all, Meloetta sank the temple (and presumably all the people in it?) and disappeared from history so it would never happen again.

Clearly that didn't work out so well.

Lightning begins to strike as the waves become choppy, and portals open in the stormy skies to reveal just who the three are - Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus! The legendary trio who Team Rocket failed to get their hands on last time are now at the beck and call of Giovanni! Iris notes they look different to before, but she hasn't seen anything yet. At Giovanni's command, the Reveal glass lifts to "reveal" the Legendaries' different "formes". As the three Legendary Pokémon wait uncharacteristically placidly, Ash has had enough of sitting still and takes advantage of the lack of attention on him to ask Pikachu to try and Iron Tail them out of there. Pikachu smacks all around the interior of the energy cube, noticed too late by Team Rocket when the attacks finally break through. Ash is immediately heading straight for Meloetta, and Giovanni casts a dismissive look back and tells Team Rocket to stop him. They send out Yamask and Woobat to stop Ash and Pikachu, blasting the ground in front of them and sending them flying back a HUGE distance (Team Rocket have been training!) and falling towards their death... only to be saved by Golurk!

Reunited with Cilan and Iris, Ash quickly fills them all in on what is going on (they pretty much knew already) and Cynthia calls out Garchomp to kick some ass. Iris calls out Dragonite who spots the Legendaries and IMMEDIATELY takes off to fight them all alone, ignoring Iris' calls. Cilan has Pansage join Golurk, while Ash teams up Pikachu and Unfezant to fly to the rescue. Cynthia asks Ash to rescue Meloetta while the others throw down with the Legendaries, and he rushes off to do that while the other Pokémon catch up to Dragonite. But they're too late, as Giovanni roars with laughter and glows with reflected power as the Reveal Glass finally changes the Formes of the Legendary trio and reveals....

They're... they're wearing bras....

Yes, it's not quite the super-badass look they might have been going for, as at least two of the Pokémon are now totally rocking the fat bosomy look. The Reveal Glass returns to Giovanni whose eyes are glowing red, and he throws his arms wide and declares to the Legendaries that they belong to him now, and he wants them to use their powers for his benefit. Meloetta screams in pain as the temple draws on more power, and Ridley feels it himself and can't take it anymore, rushing to try and help her.

The Pokémon attack the Legendaries, lead by the furious Dragonite who is instantly knocked back into Garchomp but goes straight back into the fray. Iris screams at him to work with the others but once again he isn't listening, trying to take on three Legendary Pokémon who represent the elements themselves all by himself. The result is predictable, as he is smashed and smacked around and sent crashing into the ground, struggling to stagger back to his feet and ignoring Iris' worried calls for him not to be reckless. Thundurus prepares to finish off Dragonite for good and Iris throws her arms wide to uselessly try and protect her Pokémon, and they're both saved by Pikachu throwing himself into the way of the attack, absorbing the electricity. Unfezant blasts at the attack to distract Thundurus, and Pikachu drops into Ash's arms. He is concerned but despite sparking a bit Pikachu is otherwise okay, since he basically just got steroided up. Cynthia reminds him once again that she kind of wants him to go and free Meloetta, so he heads off again.

Iris approaches Dragonite who barks grumpily at her, but is disarmed when she sees through his gruffness and tells him that she is okay. She laughs, admitting that she was trying to protect him but in the end it was Pikachu who protected her. She tells him what it at stake, tells him that she knows he isn't going to give up and gives him a thumbs up that makes him flex a bicep - she has learned an age-old truth that most girls figure out at one point or another - tell a boy he's big and strong and he'll happily do whatever he's told!

Garchomp and Golurk (with help from Pansage) are holding their own against the Legendaries, while Zager and Team Rocket stand on the lower ring of the upper deck of the temple watching. Giovanni roars that he will show them all true power and the Legendaries unleash a blast that sends all the Pokémon flying back and into the sea. The Legendaries then open a portal in the air and let rip with a massive burst of ice that freezes the ocean itself, spreading to the shore and freezing large sections of the land as well. Dragonite, Garchomp, Golurk and Pansage burst through the ice, still willing to fight, while Giovanni gloats over the power in his hands that was once used by the ancients.

Meanwhile, Ash and Pikachu are still coming for Meloetta, and have reached the level where Team Rocket are waiting to stop them. Giovanni is having none of it, and the trio tell Ash that they won't hand over Meloetta because they need her for their plans. Ash orders an Electro-Ball from Pikachu to deal with Team Rocket... and for the first time Giovanni gets a first-hand look at the amazing power that Team Rocket thought Pikachu always had - a super Electro-Ball!

Yes, Pikachu is souped the fuck up thanks to absorbing Thundurus' attack earlier - it really was a dose of steroids! The giant electro-ball blasts right into the upper deck of the Temple where Giovanni was standing and shatters it, a horrified Giovanni falling backwards as the Reveal Glass turns and BLASTS HIM RIGHT IN THE FACE WITH REFLECTED POWER!

Meloetta falls from her prison and Ash sends in Unfezant to rescue her, the smoke clearing to reveal Team Rocket (including Giovanni!) all lying blasted on the ground. Meloetta leaps into Ash's arms and hugs him, as Ridley FINALLY arrives (what took him so long?) and gasps his thanks, hugging Meloetta as well. But it's not over yet - Garchomp, Golurk, Pansage and Dragonite are sent smashing into the ground by the Legendaries, and as Team Rocket and Zager recover and declare they need to recapture Meloetta, Giovanni stops them. Staggering to his feet, he declares he doesn't need Meloetta anymore. Why not?

Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit! is why not!

Somehow Giovanni has absorbed the power of the Reveal Glass, and now the conduit for control of the Legendaries passes through him and NOT Meloetta. There's just one problem - Giovanni is now completely fucking insane! He doesn't want to conquer Unova anymore, he wants to DESTROY it! Team Rocket are horrified, destruction isn't in their gameplan, and Zager figures that there is something wrong with the power now, something to do with Meloetta not being there.

He is right, Ridley reveals that the reason Meloetta was used as the conduit was because she served as a spiritual balance to the massive power of the Reveal Glass. Now that she no longer serves as the conduit, the power is running through Giovanni who is distinctly NON-spiritual. His plans and goals have been subverted into a base desire for destruction. As the Pokémon return to the fight, Team Rocket come to their own decision, and something you never thought you would ever see happen - they throw down on Giovanni!

God DAMN!

Removed from the shattered pedestal of the upper deck of the temple, the red runes on Giovanni's forehead fade and the power disappears. Opening his eyes, a grumpy and confused Giovanni has no memory of what just happened.... but has a strange feeling he's just been COMPLETELY defeated! :p

He asks what happened as Jesse, James and Meowth help him to his feet, and Zager is careful to be diplomatic. He tells Giovanni that nothing happened, it's just that they can't really control the Legendaries anymore now that they don't have Meloetta. Giovanni glares up at Meloetta over with Ridley, Cynthia, Ash, Pikachu, Cilan and Iris and then closes his eyes, a small smile on his face as he orders their retreat. They help him away, Yamask throwing up a Haze as Ash demands to know if they're running away. Unfezant uses Gust to blow the Haze away, but Team Rocket are already in their helicopter flying away. Before they go though, Jesse notes with some amazement to the others that there really IS something special about that Pikachu. Giovanni only glares, but is he thinking the same thing? Are we about to see a return to Team Rocket's age-old Pikachu obsession? One can only hope!

But the fight goes on, as the Legendaries continue to blast the fuck out of the twerps' Pokémon. The latter are putting up a good effort but they're hopefully outclassed, and a different kind of resolution other than violence is needed. Ridley thinks he has the answer though, returning the Reveal Glass to the pedestal and asking Meloetta to help him sooth the Legendaries. As she flies high, he respectfully asks the Reveal Glass for its help, and as Meloetta begins singing the Legendaries hear and fly high, ribbons of rainbow-coloured light surrounding them as they revert to their ordinary Formes. Their tempers have been settled, the violence has ended, Meloetta's soothing song and the power of the Reveal Glass used with respect and peaceful intentions has saved the day.

Already far away from the ruins of the Temple, Giovanni sits in the helicopter looking out the window. He smirks and ponders that he almost destroyed himself - it seems he DOES remember, or that Zager and the others finally filled him in. There is nothing for him in Unova anymore, however, and he declares they shall return to their main base - they're returning to Kanto!

Back at the site of their defeat, the temple is sinking beneath the waters once again, while the Legendaries return through the portal to their own domains. The twerps are departing in Cynthia's boat (Officer Jenny is apparently still none the wiser as to what was going on with all that ice), Ash pondering what Team Rocket ALMOST pulled off. Ridley notes pessimistically that it seems things haven't changed all that much since ancient times, there are still people that want to use power for their own benefit. Cynthia notes however that there have always been and still are people who fight for what is good and right, which sparks up Meloetta who seems to like to be on the optimistic side of things as well.

Unfortunately this is also the end of Meloetta's time with the twerps. Returning to Cynthia's beach house, Ridley prepares to return to the new location of the Protectors of Meloetta with her. The twerps have to say their goodbyes, Meloetta hugging Ash before joining Ridley on Golurk's back. They blast off and head off into the sunset, Cynthia and the twerps waving goodbye, and Cynthia perhaps wondering just when the twerps will follow suit and stop freeloading off of her.

So yes it's a time for goodbyes - Ridley has left, Meloetta is gone, Giovanni has returned to Kanto (and taken Jesse, James and Meowth with him?) and the twerps are gonna have to go sooner or later to go to the Unova League. But everybody is content and happy and understanding about the need for departure, knowing that at some point everybody has to move on and accept that people come and go. Everybody understand that.

Well... almost everybody!
