Today finds..... DRAGON WARS! No, not the terrible 2007 film, but a Dragonite locked in a vicious battle with a Hydreigon - a bizarre looking Pokémon that either has three heads or two heads for hands! They battling in the stormy night sky over the ocean, and Dragonite is getting the worst of it. It retreats out over the forest, chased by Hydreigon. Distracted by terrified Pidoves, it takes a shot directly in the back and crashes down into the water, and the satisfied looking Hydreigon sails away.

The next morning, Dragonite pokes its head out of the water and looks around grumpily for Hydreigon, then takes to the air once more. But one wing has been badly damaged and it struggles to maintain height, flying over a power station and hitting a pylon that zaps it, causing it to crash to the ground and set off the alarm. Magnemite appear, seeing Dragonite's crashing arrival as a threat to their territory, and they surround it as it grimaces in pain and anger at them.

The twerps are supposed to be getting in another day of training at Cynthia's holiday home, but they're being held up by Dawn. Standing in the bathroom gloomily brushing her hair and using a hairdryer, she complains to Iris about how difficult it is to manage her hair. Iris - who clearly does not give fuck one about what her hair looks like - seems amused at what has become a familiar ritual for Dawn. Ash arrives having no idea what the fuck is going on, Cilan is making breakfast and it's time to eat!

Just then the power goes out all throughout the house, meaning they can't finish preparing breakfast, Jervis can't make coffee and Dawn can't finish brushing her hair. Officer Jenny arrives looking for Cynthia, hoping the Sinnoh Champion can do her job for her. Cynthia is off making preparations for the Junior World Cup though, and Jenny explains the power cut is affecting the whole area because a Dragonite has attacked the local power station. Dawn checks out Dragonite on her Pokédex, learning that the bulky, dopey-looking dragon is capable of travelling faster than the speed of sound.

Jervis asks if it is THAT Dragonite, and she says it is, and she was hoping to get Cynthia's help in dealing with it. Since that clearly isn't going to happen, she has to head off (presumably to get somebody else to deal with it for her), leaving Jervis to explain what he meant. It seems that a rogue Dragonite has been seen in the area recently, and it has a troubling habit of challenging any Pokémon it meets, even ones that are clearly stronger than it. Cilan notes it has a taste for danger and Jervis says all the fighting has caused plenty of Pokémon to get injured, and the locals have been so worried that they haven't done anything about it at all.

Iris, however, doesn't believe it. She doesn't care how "rogue" a Dragonite it might be, she doesn't think it would have "attacked" a power plant. Cilan tries to talk sense into her, but she lets her feelings control her actions and rushes off claiming she is going to see for herself (does she even know where the power plant is?). Ash has no idea what is going on but he happily tells Pikachu they'll go along too, and Dawn agrees to join in with the group, leaving Cilan and Jervis behind. Cilan can't let them go alone, of course (they might decide HE is the third wheel!) so off he goes too, leaving the only actual adult to wave goodbye and offer a lame warning to be careful.

At the power plant, the Magnemite are blasting the fuck out of Dragonite who is taking it with gritted teeth, but seems resolved to not give up an inch. It breaks free and blasts flames at them, then flies away down the (oddly 3d) corridors of the power plant, chased by the Magnemite and two local police officers. Reaching a dead-end, Dragonite ducks into a room and begins punching the equipment, sending it flying into the doorway and creating a barricade which is then sealed up by an ice-beam. Officer Jenny arrives on the scene to ask where Dragonite is, and the answer of course is behind the big-ass wall of ice! Inside the room, Dragonite winces from the pain of its damaged wing, and it drops down and curls up to rest.

The officers explain that the power plant workers have taken refuge and it is now only the three of them inside. Jenny wants to get Dragonite out, but they can't get past the ice-wall (oh surely ONE of them has a Pokémon that can use fire-based attacks!), but one of the men has an idea. Heading outside, they find a small air duct, but it is too small for them to fit through. Once again they fail to remember they carry around small semi-sentient pets in their goddamn pockets that could do the job. Luckily some idiotic children arrive on the scene eager to volunteer! Iris declares that she will enter the power plant and talk to the Dragonite, and then lead it out. Ash happily speaks up in support of Iris, explaining she is from the Village of Dragons and WANTS to be a Dragon Master. Since Officer Jenny has no other ideas and is naturally extraordinarily lazy, she agrees - she'll send the small children in to face the incredibly dangerous and apparently crazed dragon!

Magnemite leads the way down the air duct, followed by Iris and a clearly less than enthusiastic Axew. Ash prepares to follow but Officer Jenny stops him, offering him a Pokéball. If Iris is unable to convince Dragonite, she wants Ash to capture it, but he turns her down, saying they won't need to capture the Dragonite - he's utterly convinced of Iris' ability to talk sense into the massive, unstable Pokémon. Cilan tries to follow next, but freezes up as his side stings with pain, the shaft is too small/narrow for him to move through - Peter Pan has grown up and can't stay with the Lost Boys anymore! Dawn and Piplup head through next, leaving Cilan behind with the adults to shout out an impotent warning for them to be careful.

Crawling through the shaft, Dawn asks Iris if she is really sure she'll be okay talking to Dragonite considering they haven't met. Iris insists it is fine, Dragonite is a Dragon-Type after all, and therefore something something! Dawn asks Iris exactly HOW you become a Dragon Master, and Iris explains cheerfully that is requires hard work, study and constant training. Ash notes this is the same for trainers and coordinators, but then Iris quiets him, spotting a light ahead. Crawling over the hatch looking down into the room, they spot the sleeping Dragonite and immediately notice the pained area on its wing, and speculate as to whether it was caused by Magnemite. Iris doesn't know but they're not going to figure it out from up there, so they decide to enter the room and get up close and personal.

Iris drops down first and approaches Dragonite, looking carefully at its wing. Their presence wakes Dragonite, and it is up with frightening speed, roaring at the intruders it assumes are there to attack it. Ash and Dawn try to calm it down but it isn't listening to them, and Iris tries a different tack. She tells it that she knows its injury wasn't caused by the Magnemites and asks for a reason WHY it came to the power plant. She seems to be getting through momentarily but then it growls, rears back and prepares to unleash a flamethrower. Ash and Dawn react immediately, calling on Oshawott and Piplup to block the attack, getting its attention onto them instead. It blasts another flamethrower at them and they jump away, the blast smashing a hole through the wall.

It roars at them again, ready to attack, but then somebody else comes through the open hatch in the ceiling - Meloetta! Despite the green band around her middle being mysteriously absent, she sings her calming song in front of the bewildered Dragonite. It stares with dumb anger at her as the twerps smile happily and Oshawott and Piplup swoon with love. The song seems to affect Dragonite as well, which calms down enough to start feeling the pain of its wing. It drops to a knee, while Dawn tells Ash it's time to rethink using Officer Jenny's Pokéball. They head out, leaving Iris behind as she slowly approaches Dragonite, reaching out to touch its snout. They call back to her and get her attention, and she reluctantly prepares to leave. Just then Dragonite rears back in pain and unleashes a gout of flame, bringing down the roof and blocking off the hole in the wall. Iris, Axew, Piplup and Oshawott (yesssss!) are left trapped inside the room while Ash and Dawn are on the other side. They call through to her that they'll go get Officer Jenny, and rush off to tell her.

Outside, the police officers figure that if Dragonite is currently unconscious then now is the best time to break in and get at it. Ash is unsure but the police don't want to take the risk of Dragonite recovering, waking up and being free to wreak havoc once more. Jenny thanks Ash for his help but tells him she can't put him in any MORE danger. Yes, it is time to do what should have been done from the start - get some MORE other people to do her job for her! She plans to go into town, round up the most accomplished trainers and break into the power plant to try and subdue and capture the near-dead Pokémon!

Inside, Iris is getting a closer look at Dragonite and its injured wing. She is still convinced it didn't come to run riot over the power plant... did it? Meanwhile, Oshawott and Piplup are trying to smash their way through the sealed up hole in the wall, ignoring the ice-wall beside it that would probably be far easier to break down. They're having no luck though, and Oshawott angrily slams his scalchop down, causing it to bounce wildly around the room and surprise Piplup before Oshawott casually catches it and slaps it easily onto his round little belly.

On the other side of the barricade, Ash calls through to Iris to warn her about the trainers who are on their way and Jenny's plan to capture it. Iris is horrified to hear they're going to attempt to do what she once tried to casually do to Meowth, and asks Ash to do something - but what can he do? Battle all of them at once?

Well actually Ash would probably really enjoy that!

Iris approaches the unconscious Dragonite and reaches out, finally touching it skin to skin... and something happens! To her shock, some kind of connection is made between her and Dragonite and she is given a flash of the Pokémon’s memories. How... how is that even possible? Maybe the Elder at the Village of the Dragons actually did know what she was doing when she sent Iris off on her journey? Iris sees the battle with Hydreigon and realises that Dragonite was hurt while trying to protect the local Pidove flock! Her completely baseless assumption that Dragonite was a good guy has proven correct, and she shouts through to Ash that Dragonite didn't come to the power plant to attack it, and she needs him to go out and find proof for her.

Ash heads out to rejoin Dawn and Cilan, filling them in on what Iris told him. Ash leads them into the forest, hoping to find evidence, while Jenny is already on the way back with a small collection of tough looking trainers. Dawn suggests to Ash that maybe it is too late for them to do anything to help Dragonite no matter what its intentions were - after all it DID damage the power plant and chase everyone out. Ash insists that was accidental, however, and they leave the forest and find themselves on a tall bank looking down over a river. A large hole has been shattered along the edge of the bank, something smashed into it with great force - Dragonite? Pidove fly up out of the bushes and Pikachu spots something up in the trees - a camera?

Jenny has arrived at the power plant with the local tough-guy trainers, and after making sure that Dragonite is still barricaded inside she calls out her own Pokémon - Ferrothorn. It's a monstrous, spiked disc-like thing with arched legs originating in its head and no actual body to speak of. The trainers are using a Magmortar, a Gurdurr, a Darmanitan and a Garbodor - it's a tough (and hideously ugly) collection, and they're ready to head inside.

Inside, Iris has become determined that she herself will protect Dragonite until Ash returns. Just then the trainers arrive, Gurdurr and Darmanitan smashing their way through the ice barricade and everybody spilling into the room. Jenny asks Iris if she is all right, while the trainers wait on Jenny's order as Dragonite begins to stir. Jenny orders it to calm down and leave or face the consequences, and Iris tries her best to explain that it didn't attack the power plant. Dragonite hauls to its feet, inadvertently knocking Iris over in the process (there seems to be a hell of a lot of collateral damage to Dragonite's presence, making Jenny's fears somewhat justified), and Jenny takes that as a sign of aggression and orders a five-fold attack. Dragonite tries to blast through all five of the attacks at once, and does surprisingly well, sent staggering back but somehow managing to mostly negate the attacks with its own flamethrower.

Iris shouts out to Jenny that Dragonite got injured and ended up at the power plant by accident, and had no intention of causing trouble. Jenny doesn't listen, telling her to keep away from the dangerous Pokémon, so Iris rushes up in front of it, shielding it with her own body and telling it that it is too injured to continue to fight. Jenny isn't listening to anything Iris says, telling her that it has been on a rampage and they can't let it get off scott-free. She even suggests that if Iris doesn't get out of the way, they'll attack her too!

Jesus Christ, woman!

Iris throws her arms wide and tells Jenny that she WILL have to attack Iris herself if she wants to get to Dragonite, and shouts out that while the damage to the power plant is very real, it was never intentional - THERE ARE NO BAD DRAGON-TYPES!

Jenny and the trainers are astonished at this statement, and then Ash, Cilan and Dawn finally return. They've downloaded footage from the Forest Patrol's surveillance cameras, which shows the battle between Dragonite and Hydreigon and seems to show that Dragonite was badly injured protecting Pidove. Jenny is shocked, but Dragonite is still ready to fight, only really understanding that a bunch of assholes have shown up and thrown attacks its way. Iris rushes up in front of it and calls out to it again, asking it to please stop, and they'll just leave and then everything will be okay! She extends her hands to it and it begins to slowly lumber forward.... and then collapses, unconscious again!

A short time later in the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy tends to the injured wing. Officer Jenny arrives and tells them the power crisis is now over, the power plant is up and running again. Ash is happy, but Iris is still concerned what will happen with Dragonite - will she capture it after all? Jenny smiles and says since it was shown to have caused the damage by accident, it is no longer the threat they thought it was - it will be free to go.

Some time later, the twerps stand outside with Dragonite which is healed up and looking as grumpy as ever. Iris tells Dragonite she was impressed with the way it looked after the Pidove, but please don't cause too much trouble in the future! Saying goodbye, it grunts something that might be a thank you and lifts into the air. But then it stops, looking back at Iris and seemingly pondering something. Cilan gasps, realising what is happening - Dragonite thinks that maybe it MIGHT want to journey with Iris? Iris is shocked but delighted, and calls out to Dragonite asking if this is the case? It ponders a moment more, then lets out a gigantic roar that leaves them all clutching at their ears. Iris takes this as a yes and gleefully pulls out a Pokéball, throwing it through the air where it bounces off the head of the patiently waiting Dragonite. Turned into red energy and sucked inside, the Pokéball drops to the ground and almost instantly blinks white - the capture was successful - Iris has a Dragonite!

Iris hauls the Pokéball up and poses happily with Axew, emulated by Dawn which startles the other, till Dawn explains she's trying to see what it takes to become a Dragon Master as well! They all share a laugh, and well they might, because Iris has herself a big, powerful fucking Dragon to train at last - Georgia is going to be delighted!

Speaking of delight and smug self-satisfaction - Team Rocket! Still underwater, their sensors have gone deep into the earth and found exactly what they were looking for. On their submarine computers they are looking at scans of a massive underground temple, and they're ready to transmit the data to headquarters. Giovanni will be pleased, it's exactly what they've been tasked with finding and they've done it. How pleased will Giovanni be?

If he is even half as pleased as this, he'll be very happy indeed!
