As this episode starts, Ash is checking out his Pokemon Badges, unaware on of them is actually Spooky Danny's Love Broach and marks him as the Gym Leader's Bitch.

Tracey explains to Ash that you only need 4 badges to get into The Orange League.

What a pussy league, you need at least 8 to get into the main Pokemon League on the Indigo Valley.

Heading into an island, Ash relishes the idea of freeloading once again and taking advantage of a Pokemon Centre to get free board and food, and Misty and Tracey are only too happy to join the emotionally crippled ten year old in his criminal enterprises.
Calling Professor Oak from the Centre, Ash's Daddy explains that a recent dive has discovered a 300 year old Orange League Trophy which they can see at the local Museum.
Pulling back from the videoscreen, we see that Ash's feet don't reach the floor, reminding us he's just a little kid.
An emotionally crippled little kid with hot, lustful thoughts about certain red-headed girls, but a little kid nonetheless.

That night, as the trio sleep, Team Rocket sneak into the Museum and reenact some classic Scooby Doo jokes, including the shhhhh pass along, with James playing Scooby Doo and shhhing the totem pole behind him.
As they walk along looking for the trophy, Meowth meows quietly to himself (this is A LOT cuter in Japanese) and James excitedly considers the prospect of being a t.v celebrity.
Meowth knocks him over, James assuming his favourite position of butt in the air, and tells him not to be stupid, they can't get famous with a stolen trophy, but the Boss might give them a nice bonus.
Suddenly we see Jesse and James in love (audible intake of breath from Rocketshippers)..... with money (disappointed exhale from Rocketshippers - silly people).
Meowth slides on some infrared goggles, proving he really is a Cat-Burglar......... man, that was a stink joke, wasn't it!?!

Setting up a pulley system, Jesse and Meowth lower James over the Trophy and you just KNOW that HE KNOWS that they're gonna drop him, but surprisingly they don't and he gets the trophy.
Running from the Museum in excitement, clumsy James trips over and leaves his indentation in the earth.

The next morning Ash, Misty and Tracey are shocked to discover the Trophy has been stolen and dejectedly walk away before tripping over James' foot.
Yes, our REAL heroes, Jesse, James and Meowth have been partying hard all night long, eating, drinking and generally being merry.

17 my ass.

James chuckles that he hasn't partied so hard since losing his Trust Fund (we assume he means he partied away his Trust Fund) and then they realise Ash, Misty and Tracey are staring at them.
James and Meowth desperately try to assure them that the stolen Trophy they know nothing about isn't in their backpack. Jesse sighs in tired contempt and they begin running, doing their motto on the run.
Getting to the docks, they steal a Seadra boat and for once Jesse has to do the pedalling, losing Ash's Lapras in a mysterious fog that has sprung up out of nowhere.

Scooby Dooby Doo!

When James realises the ship that they discover in the fog is haunted, he, Jesse and Meowth do a clever Ditto impersonation and then run from a barely seen apparition, crashing through a hole in the floor and disappearing from sight.
"We've managed to hitch a ride on the S.S Spookship!" James quips nervously just before this happens.
Arriving on the ship, Ash, Misty and Tracey are all scared but stupid egg-thing Togepi isn't, even when a Mast nearly falls on it and it falls down the hole, even Pikachu not able to save the day this time.

Damn Negligent Mothers.

Heading below decks, Ash, Misty and Tracey walk along at a slow, comfortable pace as if totally unconcerned by the huge fall Togepi took.
Meanwhile, Jesse, James and Meowth are trying to find their way out and something keeps tapping Jesse's shoulder.
Getting pissed off at James' silly games, she hits him with a plastic mallet (?) and he complains he didn't do anything to her (and never will, Rocketshippers!).
After Meowth comments he can't reach that high, Jesse turns to find herself facing a....

Sheet?

A SHEET!

Come on, even Tim wasn't scared when his sisters' pulled that one on him as a little boy.
Well, not too scared, anyway.
Running away, the Trio run headlong into another ghost.
"Arrgh! They're in stereo!" cried Meowth.
A huge tongue flops out and licks right up Jesse and Meowth's face, and soon all three are lying incapacitated on the ground and the ghosts have the Trophy.
Togepi runs into the two and isn't scared at all, but when Misty steps through the doorway and sees Togepi's shadow she about wets herself, although more from the crushing realisation that she'll have to look after it after all.
As the two sheets whirl about Togepi (which has gotten remarkably big, animators) Misty uses Starmie to attack the vicious bed linen, revealing Gastly and Haunter.
Ash uses his Pokedex on them (what? You don't remember them Ash?
A Gastly and Haunter once killed you and Pikachu and a Haunter helped you defeat that Spooky Gym Leader way back when! Geez, the boy just don't get it!).

Realising that Haunter and Gastly are just playing with Togepi, they note the Trophy and move to get it, and suddenly the Ghosts aren't in such a playful mood.
"That Trophy belongs in a Museum!" cried Ash stridently.

What, is he Indiana Jones now or something?

Typical of Action Hero Ash, trying to impress Misty.
"Forget it, Twerpy!" snaps Meowth, appearing with Team Rocket.
"Yeah! We worked hard to steal that!" complains James, and sends out Victribell, which promptly attempts to eat Meowth.
Jesse throws out Arbok :

[Note that Weezing is almost never used, that is because the animators have realised what a grotesque monstrosity he is and regret their strident demands to make Koffing evolve.
We hereby lay down the challenge to Nintendo, BRING BACK KOFFING!]

who gets confused and beats up Team Rocket!
Gastly grabs Meowth by the head and, similar to the giant Tentacruel from the first series, uses the cat to talk to the humans.
Taking a leaf out of The Matrix's book, the background changes to 300 years earlier and the Captain (with the COOOOLEST hair) who sailed his Ship from one Island to anudder (Hey, Meowth's words!) and won the Trophy all those years ago.
They watch the Captain lay down the challenge to anyone who wishes to face him, and he points at someone standing where Ash is.
The clever little boy thinks the Captain is talking to him and accepts the challenge before realising his opponent has been dead for over 300 years.
Meowth is freed from his psionic shackles and Team Rocket are blasted off again before The Gastly and Haunter reveal that the Captain who trained them was actually Walt Disney!

Well how else do you explain The Peter Pan ending?
