243: Wish Upon a Star Shape

Don't we all.
But as they finish wishing, they notice that the shooting star is still... well, shooting! In fact it's not a shooting star at all, it's a UFO! My goodness me, look what happens when you....
Wish Upon A Star Shape.
Something falls from the falling UFO, crashing into Phanpy as the UFO itself crashes deeper out into the forest. Watching that as well as the twerps is a man and woman, but not the usual blue-haired/red-haired duo one might expect, and they're not in Team Rocket outfits either!
The twerps check on Phanpy which was winded but seems otherwise okay, and lying by it now is what looks like a tiny Clefairy. Apparently it is a Cleffa, the pre-evolved form of Clefairy according to Dexter. They congratulate Phanpy for using its fat ass to cushion the falling Cleffa, and Cleffa seems quite taken with Phanpy, but then turns to stare sadly at the rising smoke from where the UFO crashed. The twerps follow its gaze and it seems to be a good week for Ash's memory, as he recalls something from a long time ago for the second time in as many episodes.
He and the others remember the Clefairy they encountered long ago that were stealing parts to put together (or repair) a spaceship and Brock makes the enormous leap of logic that these must be the same Clefairy. Well it seems only right that they take Cleffa to rejoin the Clefairy, and head off while under watch by Team Rocket. The trio are interested to see a Cleffa, but then even more interested as they spot the other two watchers from earlier approaching the twerps. Dressed in black trenchcoats and sunglasses despite the night-time, they ignore the twerps to take photos and measurements of Cleffa, proclaiming it to be undeniable proof of extraterrestrials. The twerps ask who they are and they kick into, of all things, a motto!
"Where-ever there is mystery in the world," says the green-haired man.
"There will always be Pokemon to be found there as well!" adds the purple-haired lady.
"And we'll be there too!" says the man.
"THE POKEMON MYSTERY CLUB!"

"C!"
"Ken!"
"Mary!"
As their motto lacked a certain "something", they point out again that PMC stands for Pokemon Mystery Club which they describe as a research club. They authoritatively inform the twerps that it would be best if the twerps handed over the Cleffa, but they aren't so keen on the idea, pointing out that they don't know who these guys really are, they could even be from Team Rocket!
Ken and Mary are offended by this, snapping that such a foul organisation shouldn't be mentioned around them, which in turn offends Jesse and James who pop up from the bushes to retort angrily.

Team Rocket informs them all that THEY'LL be taking the Cleffa, but PMC stops them by grabbing out a suitcase and quickly assembling.... A FUCKING ROCKET LAUNCHER! Team Rocket are impressed by the expensive nature of their equipment, while PMC turn and fire a rocket net at Cleffa and Phanpy, which dart aside and take off into the forest together.
Ash angrily calls for a Thundershock from Pikachu which fries the PMC, and then the twerps rush off followed by Team Rocket, leaving PMC behind coughing miserably before they also head off after them.
As the twerps head in the direction the ship crashed in, Team Rocket get lost and complain that Phanpy has never shown them any loyalty! Meowth shyly points out it had a sense of loyalty to one of them, putting his hands behind his tail (oh Meowth) and then pulls out a divining stick (it's a stick!) and points it in the direction they are likely to have gone. PMC show up, laughing at them for using a STICK while they assemble another expensive piece of equipment from their suitcase, Team Rocket complaining that they're probably all paid up on their dues as well. They program in statistics to find out which way they likely went, and then construct a.... bulldozer! then zoom past a shocked Team Rocket.
The expensive equipment seemed to do its job right though, as Phanpy and Cleffa soon find themselves running from the dozer, and then find their way blocked by a thin ditch/cliff. Phanpy spots a tree and headbutts it angrily as the dozer approaches, then backs up and charges again to hits the tree hard and knock it over the ditch/cliff. Cleffa jumps back on and they head over the tree bridge, followed by the PMC who are stopped by the thinness of the tree. They quickly open their suitcase and construct a harpoon rocket, firing it through the air and.... it is blocked! Who would dare get in their way? Why Team Rocket of course! They fly by in their Happy Buddha Face Meowth Balloon laughing at them, only to have the joke turned when the PMC fire a plunger rocket at their basket, hoping to hitch a ride. As the two groups argue, the twerps come by, spot them, and head on over the tree bridge, heading deeper into the forest where Pikachu finds the crashed space ship.
Inside the craft are Clefairy, and Ash suspects they are the same ones from last time after he sees one with a flower in its ear (is it going to San Francisco?). Phanpy and Cleffa arrive with the others, but before they can be reunited PMC flies in on FUCKING ROCKETPACKS, talking up again that the Clefairy did not come to earth by shooting star as often thought, but spaceships. They laugh at their discovery, but then Team Rocket show up in their balloon and laugh that they might not have all the fancy equipment and matching jumpsuits that PMC has, but they do have a modified Happy Buddha Face Meowth Balloon that turns into.... The Happy Buddha Face Meowth Robot!
It grabs at Cleffa with a giant claw, flicking Phanpy aside easily and absorbing a Thunderbolt from Pikachu with ease. The PMC is more furious than ever, mostly because Team Rocket's robot is too low tech! They pull open their suitcase again and this time construct a..... bulldozer robot monster with claw arms! The two robots lock up and struggle against each other, Jesse growling that they're wasting time and ordering Meowth to use the emergency backup cannon. Meowth hits a button and.... nothing happens! James asks if anyone else is feeling as draft, and then they turn and notice for the first time (it's easy to miss) that a bunch of Clefairy is crawling through the cockpit, having scrapped most of their robot for parts!
PMC laugh as Team Rocket is "deflated again", but then realise their own robot is being scrapped as well! Pikachu and Phanpy grab Cleffa to take it to the Clefairy while Jesse roars that it is time for her and the PMC to work together, and the PMC agree, nothing that they have nothing left in their suitcase. Team Rocket asks for the PMC to call for reinforcements, and the PMC reluctantly mention they have an exclusive membership.... of two!
Team Rocket are furious, they're been wasting their time with a two-bit twosome? Well the hell with it, they rush for the Spaceship which is obviously low on energy and unable to take off. Pikachu Thunderbolts them which seems to also reload the Spaceship's energy, and then Phanpy hits the two teams with Rollout and sends Team Rocket blasting off again.... with the PMC!
The spaceship begins to take off without Cleffa and it tries to follow them, but then turns to stare at Phanpy. The Clefairy with a flower in its ear rushes to the exit hatch to call for Cleffa but the ship is already taking off, and Brock thinks they're not repaired enough yet to turn around. But as Cleffa runs it evolves into Clefairy and floats into the air, leaving Phanpy behind. It turns to look back waves to the sad Phanpy and re-enters the spaceship, which heads off into the God knows where to do God knows what.... are they really aliens? Or just a bizarre group of Pokemon that figured out how to build a flying machine that looks like a spaceship?
Phanpy has a sad montage off all its memories (consisting of a 10 minute relationship!) with Cleffa, while the narrator himself points out that we may never actually know if Clefairy are actually aliens or not.
As for the PMC? Well they've moved onto a fresh new mystery.... crop circles! They stare at one in a cornfield, noting that it has long been thought to be the result of UFO landings. But they know better, as they watch a Snorlax roll over and create a circle in the crops. Ken and Mary laugh at having solved another mystery.... and then Snorlax rolls over on top of them.
Thank sweet, gentle Jesus for that.
