72: Round One - Begin!

After sign up is complete, he ends up battling in the water arena. Ash meets Gary before the battle, who is very confident as usual. Gary enters his battle and wins it. Ash meets his challenger in the water arena. Ash's opponent is a very, eh.... flamboyant individual, and his effeminate nature and magic tricks infuriate Jesse and enrapture James, who claims that he 'likes this guys style'.
Uhhh James, looking for love in all the wrong places.
His name is Mandy, and he is quite confident he will win as well.
Before the battle, Ash phones Professor Oak, and he gets a, well, shock to say the least, that his mother is over at Oak's house. What a coincidence, huh? Maybe he's just starting to suspect something...
Ash gets Krabby from Oak through an exchange system.
Then, he heads towards the arena for battle. Ash enters the arena. Just as the battle is about to begin, Team Rocket is in the announcer's stand cheering him on. They are soon carted away by a group of five Officer Jennies. A classic bit happens when Brock explains to Misty how he can tell apart the Officer Jenny's (who, as we've noted earlier, don't seem to do much of anything) : The Veridian City Jenny wears her skirt shorter than the other Jenny's; the Celadon City Jenny uses styling gel in her hair; Sapphron City Jenny uses Vileplume Number 5 perfume, before she drags him off again by the ear.
Ash fights the battle hard. Using his Krabby, he manages to win the first battle which then evolves into a Kingler.
Continually fighting the battles with Mandy's Pokémon, Ash wins them all much to the surprise of Mandy who was sure he would win. With the first Pokémon battle won, Ash faces the next arena.
