23: Haunter vs. Kadabra

When they arrive at the gym, Haunter has disappeared. Sabrina turns Brock and Misty into dolls and the mysterious man who turns out to be Sabrina's father saves Ash and Pikachu.
Ash shows us he is a complete thicko. He shows his intelligence by completely missing the point of Sabrina's Dad's identity and mistaking him for a photographer.
Later on, Ash finds Haunter having ruined another plan of Team Rockets' and Ash goes back to the gym. Haunter disappears again and this time Sabrina won't let them leave. Pikachu agrees to fight anyway and just as the match begins, Haunter foregoes battle to make Sabrina laugh, exorcising her repression and causing Kadabra (Kadabra's mind still linked to Sabrina) to fall into a laughing fit, which gives Ash the victory and frees Misty and Brock from their imprisonment.
This is the third badge Ash earned without really defeating the gym leader.
