311: Watt's with Wattson |
Dodgy Synopsis
Ash bravely steps up and knocks on the door.... which promptly falls over! They step through over the door, confused, and then suddenly rails raise up and the door flies forward on a conveyer belt down the hall. Everyone is shocked, this isn't exactly what they were expecting, but Max begins to enjoy the ride as they slowly travel up a steeply sloped corridor..... and then zoom quickly down the downward-sloping other side! Elsewhere in the Gym, a crazy fat man (Santa?) with a receding hairline spiked up at the back and a beard watches them on camera and laughs a welcome, then begins cackling madly. Gee, one has to wonder.... Watt's With Wattson? He continues laughing (and apparently "enjoying himself" if his jerking arm is any indication) as his nerdy assistant asks if he turned up the power on the door-ride. Wattson says he did and laughs some more as he watches the twerps' ride hit water and surfs along as they scream in horror. The nerdy assistant questions his Boss, who shushes him, whispering that they're getting close to the best past. The twerps ride out of the water into another corridor and the door begins to slow down as May complains that this is a bad way to welcome guests. Despite his own screams though, Max thinks it is has been fun as they approach a door which opens to reveal..... RAIKOU! Yes the massive, legendary Pokemon roars and blasts lightning at them which barely misses. Screaming in horror, the twerps have to rely on a small yellow rat to defend them as Pikachu jumps up and fires a Thunderbolt that clashes with Raikou's own. The two electric blasts smash into each other and wipe each other out as Pikachu dives down with Iron Tail.... and Raikou's head explodes! Oh shit, Ash just killed a legendary Pokemon! But wait, no.... something is wrong here. Wires are jutting out of Raikou's neck; it was just a fake all along. Ash asks Pikachu if it is okay and it nods, then smirks and sparks with electricity, looking a little.... well.... evil! Wattson - the Gym Leader - stomps out with his nerdy assistant and happily congratulates Ash on doing so well. He confesses he never thought he'd see his Raikou reduced to scrap as his long suffering assistant - Watt - also welcomes them to the Gym. Well, if Ash is offended, scared or angry over the bizarre treatment he has received so far, he excuses it all because he wants to FIGHT! Wattson is impressed, and proclaims with a laugh, "I haven't seen a challenger with that much spunk in a long time!" You should check out Brock, his back teeth are floating in it! Out near Mauville, Team Rocket have found an abandoned, fully functional power station. Meowth thinks this is bizarre, why the hell would a perfectly functional power station be abandoned? But Jesse and James don't look a gift horse in the mouth, Jesse declaring it is perfect for a new base. James declares it their first secret base in Hoenn and they open the door.,... and spot a bunch of Magnemite, Magneton and Voltorbs. They shut the door in fright, then open it to make sure it wasn't just a random collection of floating dust with the light hitting JUUUUST right, but it wasn't. They slam the door shut and Jesse snaps angrily about freeloading Pokemon while James notes they probably have enough electric power to light up the entire Hoenn Region and Meowth hopes none of them has a short fuse. Jesse figures there is one way to claim the base, James agreeing that all they have to do is march in there, look the Pokemon in the eye and tell them who's boss. Yep, so Jesse and James grin and say they could just walk away. Happily turning their back on the plant they begin walking away, but an angry Meowth calls them back, because he has an idea! No not just an idea.... a patented crazy Meowth Giovanni fantasy! We see Giovanni lying asleep in bed (as always in these fantasies, he is wearing a nightcap) with Voltorbs lying all about him on the bed. "A teeny little zap from dose Voltorb will wake the boss ever so gentle," says Meowth as we see little zaps from the Voltorb waking him up. Next we see Giovanni standing with his back to the camera, combing his hair as he uses a hairdryer poured by some Magnemite, "And tanks tah Magnemite, he'll get all his electricity for free! I can almost hear him now, saying dose words I long tah hear..." Giovanni turns with a grin to camera, his top shirt button shockingly undone and his hair still poking up in places, he says in a suspiciously Meowth-like voice, "Dese electric Pokemon Meowth and friends gave me are great and I'm gonna help dem all out!" "And bonuses!" gasp Jesse. "Undeserved respect!" gasps James. But between them and their dreams are those electric Pokemon, and they're not going to let them stop them! In the battle arena of the Gym Watt explains the rules. Each trainer will use three Pokemon, and when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle then the other trainer will be declared the winner. Ash looks confident, but not as confident as Pikachu which stares smugly from under narrowed eyes at Wattson, a small line of red crossing between its eyes and nose.... yes indeed something doesn't seem quite right about Pikachu. Wattson yells that he'll be using Voltorb, Magnemite and Magneton, taking the unprecedented step of announcing his Pokemon (all from the original "150") before the fight. He claims to have trained with them for a long time now. Max guesses that this is an Electric Gym (did the Robotic Raikou, the names Watt and Wattson and the Voltorb by Wattson's side give it away, genius?) and Brock is surprised he is revealing his Pokemon so early. Max wonders what Pokemon Ash will use (three of the four he's got, boy genius) and notes that Treecko will be strong against electric types. May thinks a water Pokemon like Corphish wouldn't do too well, and Brock thinks despite Taillow being a flying type it would do okay against Wattson. But all of their theories prove pointless as Pikachu rushes off of Ash's shoulder, Ash pleased to see Pikachu is so eager to fight, not noticing Pikachu's oddness. Brock declares that he thinks he knows Ash's strategy, and considering that Pikachu jumped down without an order, this is probably all talk in an effort to impress May (and to a lesser extent, Max). Wattson laughs that he looking forward to this and kicks things off by ordering Magnemite to use Swift! Magnemite follows orders (ending the .00001% chance of Magnemite refusing and leading a rebellion of slave Pokemon to fight their way to freedom before being captured and all of the Pokemon shouting, "I'M SPARKTACUS!) and fires Swift, but Pikachu dodges and Ash calls for a Thunderbolt, Wattson laughing that electric attacks are useless against his Pokemon...... and then Pikachu lets loose with a fucking massive white blast of electric energy and knocks Magnemite right the FUCK OUT! Wattson, Magneton and Voltorb are shocked, the Gym Leader can't understand and Watt - acting as referee - has to fight back his own surprise to make the call that Magnemite is no longer able to battle. Brock, May and Max stare in shock as well, and then suddenly the Santa-Looking Wattson starts laughing again, declaring that for every rule there is an exception. Voltorb is up next, and it glows as it tries Screech, while Pikachu fires back with a Thunderbolt..... and knocks Voltorb THE FUCK OUT! Wattson is once again shocked and Watt simply can't believe it, but he makes the call - Voltorb is unable to battle. Wattson turns to his last Pokemon and calls for Zap Cannon, and the Magneton lets rip a wicked looking Zap Cannon as Pikachu retaliates with Thunder. White electric light blasts into the approaching Zap Cannon, smashes it away and then tears up the arena floor as it crashes into Magneton and.... KNOCKS IT THE FUCK OUT! OMG P1K4CHU USING HAXX! Wattson is shocked and Watt disbelievingly declares Ash the winner... it's over, Ash has won with one attack each time and gained his third Gym Badge! Yay? Wattson stares in horror, then smiles and approaches Ash, handing him the Dynamo Badge. Ash takes it with a smile though he too looks a little stunned at the ease of his victory as he lets out a slightly nervous chuckle. Wattson tells Ash he beat him but good, then turns and walks away with a sad smile, and a concerned Watt starts to follow him when he hears Ash cry out in alarm. Turning he sees Pikachu has collapsed and Ash runs up to him, touching him and discovering he is burning up. In the Mauville Pokemon Centre, Wattson hands his Pokeballs over to Nurse Joy with the same sad smile and thanks her for looking after his Pokemon. She says he is welcome and then he picks up a case and begins to walk away, confusing Joy who asks if he is going to wait around. He says Watt will pick them up, then he walks away, leaving a confused Joy behind, wondering what happened to his wonderful laugh? But then Ash runs in crying out his Pikachu is hurt and she quickly tells him to come. Brock probably did the moment he saw her. Wattson sits staring out at the ocean, remembering Pikachu wiping out all of his long trained Pokemon with one attack each, and he can't believe it.... one little Pikachu wiped him out, and a loss like this could wipe out his entire Electric Pokemon Gym Career.... then what would he do? Suddenly he feels a tug on his jacket and turns to see an Electrike - a little green electric puppy (^__^) with yellow striping - pulling at him, trying to get his attention. It runs around and nuzzles at his leg and he says it is friendly for a wild pokémon, and offers it some food from his pocket (he didn't get fat running marathons, Gentle Dodgers). Back inside the Pokemon Centre, Pikachu is hooked up to a some futuristic looking headphones that are apparently an electrometer, sparking shooting from it's cheeks as Ash watches, worried. Nurse Joy asks if Pikachu has been exposed to high voltage recently and he remembers the robotic Raikou. She explains this has created an overcharge which is making Pikachu generate far higher electric powers than normal, which is also burning the fat little Pokemon out. Ash realises this is why he swept the Gym Battle against Wattson, a fact that surprises Nurse Joy. She stares at Pikachu as the excess electricity is siphoned off, and the sickly Pikachu suddenly feels much better! It leaps into Ash's arms as he apologises for not noticing earlier that something was wrong. Then Watt arrives, calling out to Nurse Joy and asking if she has seen Mr Wattson. She says she saw him a minute ago but he wasn't acting like normal, and Watt explains that Wattson is abandoning the Gym! Apparently Watt found a note explaining he was leaving and telling him to pick up the Pokemon and look after the Gym. Hmm, an old man has suddenly left town leaving a note leaving all his worldly possessions to the guy who found the note? Any competent law officer would view that with suspicion.... so luckily Watt only has Officer Jenny to contend with. The twerps say they have to find Wattson and let him know the battle was a mistake, and when Watt asks what they mean Ash explains Pikachu was overcharged by mistake, which is why they blew Wattson's Pokemon away. Joy suggests the little island with the abandoned power plant might be the place to look since that is one of Wattson's favourite places as well as an old training ground. On the island, Wattson rubs Electrike as it licks his face (GETCHA MINDS OUTTA DA GUTTA!) and he asks it if it knows any electric attacks. It tries and struggles with a Thunder Wave, Wattson laughing his Magnemite has trouble with that at first as well. But then he hears a rumbling and turns to see Team Rocket ride in a vacuum cleaner-mobile, bursting in the power plant door and sucking all of the electric Pokemon into an electric proof cage. Wattson roars for them to stop. asking who they think they are. "Prepare for trouble, now here's a shock!" "You can make it double around the clock!" "To protect the world from devastation." "To unite all peoples within our nation." "To denounce the evils of truth and love." "To extend our reach to the stars above." "Jesse." "James." "Team Rocket sparks wonderment at the speed of light," says Jesse as she stands, rubbing her hands slightly up and down as electricity surrounds them. "Surrender now or prepare to fight, fight, fight!" adds James, doing the same. "Dat's right!" grins Meowth. "WOBBBB UH!" salutes Wobbuffet. "TEAM ROCKET!" yell the twerps, arriving just as the motto finishes. Wattson growls that he will handle this and Watt begs him to come back, but he says that it is time for an old soldier to fade away. Ash and Pikachu try to explain what happened, but before they can Team Rocket spot Pikachu and decide to grab it with their vacuum-mobile, sucking it up off of Ash's shoulder into the cage as well as the Electrike. Then they fire a net over the twerps, Wattson and Watt before Jesse quips they can stay behind and "surf the net" while they make their escape. Ash throws the net off with a grunt as Team Rocket drives away and prepares to chase the much faster vehicle, but Wattson stops him with a smile, saying he has an idea. Team Rocket sing happily as they get away, singing, "We're so smart! We're number one! What a blast!" Meowth says they owe it all to his Absorbozappamatic Mark VI (what happened to the other five is a closely guarded military secret) and then suddenly they find something in their way. RAIKOU! James gasps at the sight of the legendary Pokemon, identifying it as Raikou as Meowth mutters that somebody super-sized it. The twerps and Wattson show up suspiciously soon after the Raikou and warn Team Rocket to give up. James is scared, mumbling to Meowth that Raikou are supposed to be strong (they're legendary Pokemon!) but Meowth nervously laughs, saying the Absorbozappamatic Mark VI is electric resistible.... but Jesse wonders if it is guaranteed to be Raikou proof. Brock sends out Forretress and orders it to use Rapidspin on the Absorbozappamatic Mark VI's cockpit as Torchic fires Ember at it, Jesse moaning at them to stop knocking, they can't come in! A scared James asks Meowth if the Absorbozappamatic Mark VI can do any attacks and he sadly admits no.... but it was cheap! Wattson instructs "Raikou" to keep its stare locked on and Watt whispers to Wattson that he thought the robotic Raikou was too damaged to work anymore and Wattson was going to throw it out. Wattson grins and admits that it roar reminds him of his 6th grade teacher, so he couldn't bear to let it go! Watt sighs as he realises, perhaps not for the first time, that his mentor is a crazy old man who looks like Santa Claus. Pikachu begins directing the other captured Pokemon on what to do, using Iron Tail on the bars as Electrike gnaws on them and the other captured Pokemon stop uselessly using electric attacks and begin tackling the bars. All the time they're doing this, Raikou keeps growling as James points out that the legendary Pokemon is all bark but apparently no bite. Suddenly confident, they call out Seviper and Cacnea and send them charging at Raikou.... though Cacnea changes direction quickly to lovingly hug James. Seviper lands and swings its Poison Tail at Raikou.... and shatters it into pieces! Team Rocket are astonished, their Pokemon just wiped out a legendary Raikou! "Dat big ol' Raikou was a rip-off!" gasps Meowth, but then their captured Pokemon burst free, James pointing out that the boss's gifts are getting away. A furious Jesse yells at Meowth that he said they were insulated against electric attacks, and he nervously says he never used the word insulated.... besides it was Iron Tail and Bite that got the captured Pokemon free. As Jesse and Meowth argue semantics, Pikachu runs up to Ash and he asks if it is okay while Electrike nuzzles up to Wattson. A furious Jesse proclaims that she'll get Pikachu if nothing else and Seviper takes a swing with Poison Tail that Pikachu dodges before Cacnea tries Pin Missile which Pikachu leaps over. Ash yells for Thunderbolt and Pikachu blasts Seviper and Cacnea and then uses Quick Attack to knock them onto the top of the Absorbozappamatic Mark VI. Jesse growls and calls out her last hope, Dustox, and tells it to blow them away. Pikachu is blown back by Gust and Dustox tries to use Psybeam, but gets confused when Wattson has Electrike use Thunder Wave, leaving it open to a Thunderbolt from Pikachu, knocking it back into Team Rocket (who left the cockpit window open) and blows up the Absorbozappamatic Mark VI, blasting them off again. Ash congratulates Pikachu on saving all of the Pokemon, but Pikachu wants to make sure Electrike gets credit too, and Wattson agrees that they did it together. But now Ash has a difficult thing to do, he approaches Wattson and tells the surprised old man that the Dynamo Badge doesn't really belong to him, that the Gym Battle wasn't fair. Watt explains Pikachu's overcharge and Wattson says it makes sense, but declares Ash deserves to keep the Badge anyway. Pikachu helped rescue the Pokemon and he got to see them work together, and that was all he needed to see to know that Ash deserves that badge. Watt grins and tells Ash that Wattson only speaks the truth (he's Santa!) and Ash finally gets to properly celebrate his third badge win! Yay? Indeed yes, YAY! Wattson says he has to get back to the Gym and train this Electrike, and Watt asks if he has changed his mind and will remain as Gym Leader. Wattson laughs, of course he will he declares Wattson, he's been too cautious lately and now he's gotten a new lease on life. Suddenly Watt breaks down and starts crying, saying he can't believe it (he was one Missing Person Report away from being a Gym Leader!) and Wattson begins to cackle madly as the twerps join in, everyone laughing and laughing and laughing. Yes Gentle Dodgers, it is with laughter that this season of Pokemon ends. When it started Ash was in Johto with Brock and Misty, but he soon returned to his home and promptly lost his two long-time companions before travelling to Hoenn. His adventures there began with a sick Pikachu and this season ended with a sick Pikachu, but the difference now is that the twerps are together again (sans Misty), Team Rocket are still getting blasted off, Pikachu is healthy again and, most importantly of all.... An insane old man is in charge of the Mauville Pokemon Gym!
