289: On a Wingull and a Prayer! |
Dodgy Synopsis
Will the twerps get something to eat? Will they get out of this slum alive? Right now they're.... On A Wingull and a Prayer! Ash collapses in hunger back to back with Brock while Pikachu collapses onto its fat little stomach. May hangs around while Max has gone exploring (the best thing for a kid who hasn't made it to single digits to do in a strange slum). He returns moments later to tell them he found the port.... but it's on the other side of the cove they're currently on. They stand staring at the other side of the port and May tries to cheer Ash up, stretching her arms high and straining her breasts against her top as she giggles that at least they found the beach! But May again discovers Ash's strange immunity to her underage charms as he snaps at her that this isn't going to help him get to Dewford! Brock and Max try to calm Ash down, saying they're going to miss the ferry anyway so they might as well not panic, just relax and have a drink. Ash sighs though, apparently he finally caught the eager bug he was missing back in Johto and is now desperate to get to his next Gym Badge. May suddenly offers to find them a boat, saying if they just relax and get a drink she'll find a boat to get them across the cove to the other port hopefully in time for the ferry. She leaves the other twerps and heads out - an overly developed ten year old girl alone on the docks, a great idea - to find a boat, but there is nothing to find. The area is deserted, the buildings run down and all the boats broken and half submerged in the ocean. She remembers Ash yelling at her and starts to feel a little pissed off, how dare he be upset at her holding him up from achieving his dream! What an asshole! She notices a person at last, a large bald man sitting at the end of the pier fishing. Approaching him from behind (because approaching from the front would involve swimming or flying) she asks him if she can ask him a question and he launches into a long rant about how he knows the fish haven't been biting recently but you have to MAINTAIN! You gots to be patient, chirrun! Well she interrupts him to say she actually wanted to ask something else, at which point a Wingull lands in front of the old man and begins squawking its name. May is quite taken with the seagull-like Pokemon and takes out her Pokedex to find out about it. "Wingull, the seagull, Pokemon," Dextina says,"Wingull will fly through the sky as though surfing waves, it normally carries food and other valuable items then hides them here and there." May likes it, she says itıs cute. The fisherman replies that Pico is the cutest ever and May offers to shake its hand, but Pico is hurt and dismayed that May has failed to notice it does not have hands and runs to hide behind the fisherman. The Fisherman - not wanting to draw attention to his Wingull's self-species loathing - tells May that Pico is shy, but when May drops to her knees and squeezes her breasts together as she coos to the little bird, it suddenly forgets about being offended and hops over to get a petting. May then offers what looks like something Pikachu would leave on Ash's shoulder, but is apparently some of Brock's "special" Pokemon food and Pico enjoys the taste. The Fisherman seems impressed with the shine Pico has taken to May and introduces himself as Briney, so-called for his "salty disposition". Oh dear, there are way too many "seaman" jokes to be made here. Team Rocket watch May and Briney from a distance, noting that if they follow her then Pikachu will fall right into their laps. Briney meanwhile is telling May he can take her and her friends to Dewford Island in half a dayıs time in two shakes of a Wingull's tail. He has a boat, the only boat in the area since the new port opened in fact. He then tells her tales of sailing the seven seas back when he was young and muscle-bound and cut a mean figure for young ladies at the ports. He tells her to go get her friends and he'll pass the time fishing until she gets back. As May leaves, Team Rocket watch from the rocks, Meowth and Jesse planning to lie in wait until the twerps return and they can get their hands on Pikachu. But Jesse has noticed Wingull as well and declares it to have wings like surfboards (bent surfboards) and it has a look of total cluelessness! James understands immediately, Wingull was obviously made for Team Rocket! Jesse proclaims it to be cute, then pulls out her Wurmple (GETCHA MINDS OUTTA DA GUTTA!) and says nothing is as cute as it while hugging it. James and Meowth ignore her gushing to lay down the framework of their plan while Wobbuffet patiently salutes. And as Briney fishes, a muscle-bound figure much like Briney was in his youth appears ominously in the foreground. Time appears to pass with us all none the wiser, as next thing we know May is leading the twerps back to Briney's house, telling that that a nice old man who lives alone on the docks with only a bird for company told her he could get them to Dewford Island four times faster than modern technology currently allows. She retells Briney's earlier story of his time on the Seven Seas, though with a slightly more "like, y'know!" vacuousness that lends his tale a bizarre childlike bent (accompanied by equally surreal fantasy imagery). But when they arrive at his house, he roars in a fury that he NEVER offered to take them on a boat trip then slams the door in her face. She stands confused, holding onto a jar of collected Pika-poop... oh, of Brock's "special" Pokemon food. They turn around and head the other way in total confusion, and Briney watching from the window as behind him a muscle-bound thug congratulates him on his acting. Briney turns and grunts at the tight-shirted, well muscled grunt in sunglasses and a bandanna that he knows he is a member of Team Aqua, he knows ALL about Team Aqua. But if the Aqua Grunt - Mulletman from yesterday's Devon Corporation Episode - is concerned at Briney's knowledge he doesn't let on, just grinning down at Pico trapped in a cage being menaced by his Crawdaunt. Knowing that Pico is in danger, Briney agrees to help the grunt get out onto the ocean. Meanwhile the twerps are walking through the slum, May still trying to figure out what to do as the others are basically resigned to having to walk over to the old port. Suddenly Officer Jenny pulls up on her motorcycle and warns them this is a dangerous area, then recognises them from the Devon Corporation. She explains to them (including a delighted Brock) that Mulletman the Aqua Grunt who escaped Devon yesterday has been reported to be in the area and is looking to hook up with the rest of his team. Brock instantly offers to help Jenny in her manhunt.... Oh Brock. Officer Jenny drives away, leaving the group of young children alone in the abandoned district she'd just warned them was dangerous. Max begins thinking, considering that Jenny told them there is a police cordon about Rustboro City. He notes that if the other Team Aqua members and the grunt are in some kind of communication then they'll know about the police cordon, so they'll all be in hiding. But Brock says no, they won't hide and run the risk of being caught, they'll be looking for a way out of Rustboro where the police won't be looking... and Brock and Max figure it out at the same time. BRINEY! Next to the pier is a large storage hangar that backs up to Briney's house and he leads the Aqua Grunt to it as Crawdaunt following, carrying the caged Pico in one claw. The boat inside the large hanger is an old one and Briney tells the grunt he isn't going to be able to get away so he might as well just give himself up now. The Grunt just grins and points out that Briney isn't going to turn him in as long as Crawdaunt has Pico captive. But just then the twerps return to Briney's, having figured out the old man was trying to protect them. The knock on the door and call out to him, then notice the hangar and start to head towards it loudly, causing the Grunt and Crawdaunt to prepare to cut them off. Briney calls out a warning to them and when the Grunt steps out, the twerps immediately recognise him as Mulletman from yesterday at Devon. Oh sure, they can figure out a guy disguised as a lab coated scientist and then dressed in a pirate muscle shirt are one and the same but if Team Rocket throw on sports jackets they're completely stumped. Crawdaunt and Pikachu rush each other for a rematch of the fight they didn't get to finish yesterday, but smoke bombs come THE FUCK OUT OF NOWHERE and suddenly everything is a smokey mess, and Aqua Grunt seems as confused as everyone. "Prepare for trouble with a smokey silhouette!" cries a voice through the smoke, and we see the silhouette of a Happy Buddha Face Meowth Balloon. "Make it double coz you ain't seen nothing yet!" "To protect the world from devastation!" "To unite all peoples within our nation!" "To denounce the evils of truth and love!" "To extend our reach to the stars above!" "Jesse!" "James!" "Team Rocket smokes you out at the speed of light!" "Surrender nor or prepare to fight, fight," says James, then pauses before finishing, "Fight!" "Daaats Right!" "Wobbuffet!" Ash demands to know what they're doing there and a somewhat miffed Jesse replies they're here to do what they're always here to do... steal Pikachu! Oh, and the Wingull too. They spot Aqua Grunt and mockingly tell him he got lucky yesterday and they'll take his Crawdaunt too, but he seems less than terrified. A vacuum pipe snakes out of the bottom of Team Rocket's balloon and sucks Pikachu in, then snaps the link of the cage Pico is in and sucks the Wingull in, cage and all. Crawdaunt begins to be sucked in as well when Brock sends out Lotad and calls for it to use Water Gun! Team Rocket cry out in dismay.... and Lotad spits a tiny stream of water out of its mouth into the ocean over the distance of roughly one foot. Team Rocket crack up laughing, and suddenly Lotad grows strong with retard rage (patent pending) and smashes the balloon, knocking Pikachu and Pico out of a trapdoor that for some reason was left in Team Rocket's basket. "Whose idea was that?" demands James, confused by the poor design as well. Briney leaps towards Pico's cage but Crawdaunt grabs it first, then uses Bubble beam to send Team Rocket blasting off.... again! Then the bridge in front of Briney's hangar lifts and cuts him off from Crawdaunt which gets picked up by the Aqua Grunt as he commandeers Briney's old boat. The twerps watch in horror as he makes what looks like a clean getaway with Briney's Pokemon. The only person who doesn't seem concerned is Briney, who hits a button which lights up his Hangar, and then the waters part and a platform rises to reveal a Wingull shaped speedboat that was hidden beneath the water... The S.S Wingull! "Okay that's a ship!" proclaims Brock. They jump in and burst off at top speed, but unfortunately the ship is one of those kinds that quickly makes up all the distance the boat they are pursuing has covered, and then can only barely keep up with the chased ship. Briney explains as they zoom along the water that after living life on the high seas his world had become dull and dreary, boring and crap until one day while fishing Pico came into his sepia toned life, landing on his head and squawking its name. "I felt the unmistakable power of my youth welling up inside of me again!" he proclaims. Dude..... DUDE! Anyways, after all that welling up was done, he knew it was time to sail the ocean again so he built the SS Wingull. Aqua Grunt has reached the rendezvous point but as he approaches, Briney begins to close the distance, shouting out that the oceans tie the world together and he'll never escape him. The Grunt grins and picks up speed in the old ship as back on the S.S Wingull Ash and Pikachu climb onto the top of the ship to try and take the grunt out. Ash orders Pikachu to use Lightning, but before it can Crawdaunt slams the water with a blast from its claws and sends a wave washing towards the ship, which Briney only just avoids. Then Crawdaunt used Bubble beam and sends a wave of water splashing over S.S Wingull. Looking up, they realise that the old ship is fast approaching a large rock too fast to stop, so Pikachu lets loose a blast of Thunder that disintegrates much of the rock, but not enough to stop a horrendous crash. Luckily Briney learnt a few tricks on the high seas, including the knowledge that apparently the distance AROUND a ship in front of you is less than the distance between your ships when directly behind. So he zooms around the old ship, gets in front of it and forms a ramp, allowing the older ship to fly through the air (Pico and its cage falling out) and landing safely on the other side of the rock. Briney leaps into the ocean and grabs Pico out of the water and THE FUCK OUT OF NOWHERE a massive submarine breaches the surface of the ocean. A hatch opens and the Aqua Grunt and Crawdaunt climb inside before the submarine dives once more, though luckily the displaced water does not suck in the nearby S.S Wingull or Briney despite the laws of physics. Briney however vows revenge, claiming that he'll get his own back on the Aqua Grunt one of these days. Back at Briney's house May finally feeds Wingull the treats she brought him earlier, at which point Max's stomach grumbles and both he and May begin blushing furiously (leading one to wonder if before editing and overdubbing, it was a noise coming from lower down that caused the embarrassment?). May signs, saying she wishes she could have tried some of that pasta they originally came to this part of town for. Briney asks if she means Rustboro City Pasta and when she says yes he tells his her best friend used to run the place and he'll organise a bang-up meal for them tonight, then tomorrow take them to Dewford Island. Lo and behold, instead of getting another episode of the twerps in Rustboro before leaving, we cut straight to the next day and Briney is good on his word. They climb into the S.S Wingull and leave Rustboro City behind, heading for Dewford and what Ash hopes will be his second Hoenn Gym Badge.
