Today finds Ash and Iris getting in some training against each other, Scraggy vs Axew in an attempt to strengthen both the little baby weaklings up. They rush up to each other dramatically, then flail at each other, Scraggy's pants falling down and Axew breaking into laughter. Scraggy tries Leer and seems to very slightly confuse Axew, and Ash happily declared that it worked... then turns to Pikachu and asks,"Right?"

Iris decides to up the ante as well and orders a Dragon Rage, causing Cilan to frantically cover up the lunch he has been preparing. Axew builds up and builds up power and releases it... and it explodes just out of its mouth and knocks it on its ass. Scraggy falls down too, more because it's still enough of a baby that a weak breeze could do the job. Cilan calls them to have lunch, and Oshawott jumps eagerly out of its Pokéball to join in the food. As what appears to be a little duckling watches from the bushes, Ash decides to call his other Pokémon out as well to eat with them (they weren't going to do this before?) when suddenly the ground gives out from underneath his feet and him and Pikachu go sliding down a long tunnel, his Pokéballs left behind on the ground.

Horrified, Cilan and Iris rush up to the hole which has filled up behind Ash, and they decide to Dig their way after them. Cilan calls out Pansage, and then is astonished to see Iris take out a Pokéball as well... she's going to use Excadrill!

Ash and Pikachu, meanwhile, are STILL sliding down the incredibly long tunnel, which has been dug by.... Sunglasses Sandile!?! It comes out side of a high cliff and hears Ash approaching, and leaps clear. Has it... has it built a death trap for them? They're coming out the side of a cliff at top speed, he's trying to kill them!?!

Or maybe not, they come flying out and crash down to the ground below, but they don't seem any the worse for fear. Ash stares at Sandile and remembers it (even Ash would remember a Sandile wearing sunglasses!), and it starts posturing at Pikachu and Ash realises that it wants to fight. It carefully and deliberately laid a trap so that Ash and Pikachu would face it alone, with no other backup, because it wants to fight Pikachu dammit and nobody else! Well Ash can understand fight obsession, and Pikachu is keen to throw down as well, so they happily agree - hell, all it had to do was ask!

Meanwhile, Iris has called out Excadrill to help, but it's in "Drill-mode" and immediately tumbles over and lays motionless, ignoring her calls to help them find Ash. Sighing, she recalls it to its Pokéball, and Cilan tells Pansage to dig... but then a noise gets their attention and they turn to see... a little baby Duckling wearing one of Cilan's serving domes on its head! It turns and waves pleasantly, then jumps down onto the ground and waddles away!

Oh my God it's Yakky Doodle!

Cilan and Pansage start to rush after it, and it uses Scald to chase them off. The steaming hot water hits the ground and bounces up into Oshawott, which uses its Scalchop to redirect the blast... up into its face and from there into Iris'. Oshawott, its face red, drops the heated up Scalchop to the ground in alarm and stares at it, surprised at its Scalchop turning on it like that, then picks it up and places it back on its stomach before glaring at the snickering Ducklett. Angrily it rushes after Ducklett, followed by Scraggy and a delighted Axew that doesn't understand the seriousness of this situation. Iris chases them, and Cilan quite rightly has his priorities straight and decides to let Iris deal with this while he and Pansage try to get Ash out of the choking tomb he thinks Ash is currently inside.

Ash meanwhile, completely oblivious to the panic his friends would quite rightly be in, has Pikachu try to blast Sandile. He's forgotten that it is part Ground-Type though, and it easily takes the blast before leaping forward with a Bite. Pikachu counters with Iron Tail to knock it away and..... Ducklett comes waddling happily into the middle of the battle and turns a happy Yakky Doodle face in their direction and waves hello as Ash checks it out with his Pokédex. Ash says hello but tells it they're kind of in the middle of a battle here, and Sandile tries to shove it aside to continue the fight. Ducklett happily, obliviously turns to look at it, so Sandile opens its maw in a threatening manner.... and Ducklett happily shoves its head into Sandile's mouth to have a look around for some food!

Sandile pulls free angrily and shouts at Ducklett, which happily tickles its nostrils with its feathers, causing it to sneeze and.... knock its sunglasses loose and onto Ducklett's face! Sandile freaks out, practically in tears as it demands its sunglasses back, while Ducklett just stares obliviously on. It starts to waddle away, then turns and offers the sunglasses back, delighting Sandile.... till it blasts Sandile in the face with Scald, laughs and waddles away.

Wow, what a jerk!

Sandile has been knocked back into Ash and is dazed and confused, then freaks out because it desperately needs its sunglasses and feels naked without them. Ash promises they'll find them, and they set off to look, the normally cool Sandile freaking out at everything, including some wild Woobat that fly overhead. Ash picks it up under the armpits and tells it that it'll be fine, sets it back down... and Ducklett swoops down out of the trees and steals Ash's hat! Sandile grasps frantically to Ash's leg as he tries to chase after the Ducklett, and it blasts at them with Ice Beam. Ash hauls Sandile up in his arms and he and Pikachu give chase, following the flying Ducklett to the shore of a stream where... sunglasses Ducklett is waiting and high-fives its hat wearing buddy. Ash has Pikachu use Thunderbolt to blast the two thieving Pokémon, knocking them down, and then they move forward to grab their hat and sunglasses back... and a THIRD Ducklett zips through them with Wing Attack, wearing Cilan's serving dome on its head.

The three Ducklett wave and then cackle happily, and Pikachu prepares to blast all three.... and they react by attacking.... Ash! Scald blasts his face, then Ice Beam freezes him in place, and Sandile uses Bite to break him free. A shivering Ash thanks Sandile (as does Pikachu) and then Pikachu tries to use Thunderbolt again, only for them to fly away into the knot-hole of a huge tree before they begin flinging out various stolen objects. They fly out clutching a football and a parasol (of course) and drop the former on Ash's head and the latter over Pikachu as it tries to let rip with Thunderbolt again, containing the blast easily.

Ash tries to pull the Parasol off of Pikachu as it keeps on blasting, electrocuting himself, and Sandile has to Bite it to help get clear. Pikachu seems a little the worse for wear though, and Ash scoops it up (getting a bit of a shock himself) before they all rush off, blasted at by the Duckletts who laugh in delight in their victory.

Meanwhile, Oshawott, Scraggy and Axew have reached the bottom of a cliff when Iris comes swinging in and admonishes them not to move any further. She tells Axew not to run off like that, and that they need to get back to Cilan and help him find Ash. He calls out to her not to go back, and she looks up to see him coming down the cliff on a rope, explaining that he and Pansage followed the tunnel and came out at the hole in the cliff, so Ash and Pikachu must have come this way too.

Meanwhile.....

....Ducklett Victory Party!

Waddling about amongst the rubbishy collection of stolen items, one of them is blasting on a noisemaker in the face of the others. Ash tells Sandile and Pikachu they're going to get their stuff back, and Pikachu grins menacingly... till its cheek-pouches seem to zap up out of control. They approach the Duckletts and Ash tries a diplomatic approach, explaining how much the sunglasses mean to Sandile and asking for them back. The Duckletts look on, then the one with sunglasses slowly approaches Ash, and Sandile goes wobbly-eyed with joy at the sheer...... and then all the Duckletts blast them with Scald and send them crashing backwards before Sunglasses Ducklett roars with quacky-laughter.

The other three join in, and Ash has had enough, telling Pikachu to use Thunderbolt... but when it tries, the moves won't blast free from Pikachu and Ash realises it has been overloaded by blasting the Parasol earlier. Sandile decides to step up to the plate despite a massive type disadvantage AND being outnumbered three-to-one, and Ash tells it that they're there for it if needed. The Duckletts throw their stolen headgear aside and rush in to battle, Sandile putting up a good effort but outnumbered and at a massive disadvantage.... till Pikachu joins the fray, using Iron Tail to protect Sandile from attacks.

The Duckletts get into a huddle to figure out a strategy, then fly high. Pikachu leaps at them but they easily fly around it and triple-team Sandile. Ash yells at them that three on one isn't fair and... he and Pikachu jump into the fight as well! The six of them roll around rumbling furiously, and to Ash's total humiliation he is bested in a physical throwdown by a duck. By a goddamn duck.

Well Pikachu has had ENOUGH of this bullshit. It begins bursting with electric energy, building up and up as the Duckletts begin to cower as they realise that maybe they're gone a little too far this time. Pikachu builds up the energy, which collects at its tail and then.... releases! A crackling ball of electric energy flies from Pikachu's tail and straight into the trio, sending them blasting off into a twinkle of light! Team Rocket have been replaced by a trio of ducks!

What was that move though? He asks Pikachu which oddly hasn't gained the ability to communicate verbally in English in the last two seconds. Luckily Cilan CAN talk, and he and Iris arrive to tell Ash that is Electro-Ball, Iris in disbelief that he hasn't heard of it before. As Cilan tells Ash that Electro-Ball is a great "zesty" move to add to Pikachu's arsenal, Scraggy happily trundles up to Sandile to say hello and is quickly pulled away by Oshawott.

Iris recognises Sandile and Ash explains it is the one from the hot sands, but before he can explain WHY it is there the Ducklett Trio returns. Cilan is surprised to discover there are three of them, while Iris just wants to complain about getting blasted in the face with Scald (take a girl out to dinner first!), but the Duckletts just wanna get revenge for.... people getting revenge on them.

They blast Scalds at the twerps, Oshawott getting it in the face and angrily throwing down its Scalchop... before it feels remorseful at being mean to its precious Scalchop and slaps it back on its tummy, and then looks delighted to have its Scalchop back!

Iris demands to know what's wrong with them, even Cilan doesn't have an explanation. But Pikachu is feeling fresh and fighting fit again and blasts the three of them with Thunderbolt, sending them blasting off again! As they go they sing a barbershop quartet... or rather, duckshop trio.... farewell, and disappear once more into the distance, flapping unsteadily away.

Sandile puts its sunglasses back on, whole again, and Iris realises that it wanted these back (well done, Sherlock!). Scraggy trundles over and takes the hat, giving it back to Ash, while Cilan moons happily over his serving dome. They head to the Pokémon Center, where Nurse Joy heals up Pikachu and Sandile and tells Ash that the Ducklett Trio are well known in the area for being a nuisance. Ash admits that because of them Pikachu learned a new move though, so something good came from it.

Later, Iris and Cilan watch as Ash continues his battle between Pikachu and Sandile. Iris still can't believe that Sandile followed them all this way just to have a battle, but - with rather genuine concern - notes that Pikachu's new Electro-Ball won't do anything against Sandile which is at a big disadvantage. Cilan doesn't seem concerned though, saying he is sure that Ash has a strategy in mind.

The battle begins, Sandile getting the upper hand thanks to using Dig to hit Pikachu at unexpected points, knocking it down and seemingly hurting it bad. Ash calls for Pikachu to get up as an incredibly smug Sandile starts stepping forward and then stops, glowing bright blue and... oh my God!

It's Boss Gator!

Sandile has evolved into a Krokorok! Ash checks it out with his Pokédex and learns that it can see in the dark. It uses Stone Edge, and Ash has Pikachu use Electro-Ball despite it not being effective against Ground Types.... but there is method to his madness, as it blasts into the loose stones from Stone Edge and sends them back at Krokorok, smashing it into the air and.... sending it blasting off again!

Iris is delighted in Electro-Ball's effectiveness, while Cilan notes that the battle was a draw despite the fact that Pikachu just sent Krokorok blasting off miles and miles away. Ash is sure they'll see it again though, and they'll battle again and have a definitive winner, and without stopping to search for the gator and checking to see if it was brutally hurt by being sent flying for miles and crashing at near terminal velocity into the ground.... they head off for their next adventure of the day!

No wonder it wants to beat up Pikachu so badly!
