Moral Learnt

Getting a job removes all your energy and zest for life!

Today finds the twerps moving through Fennel Valley, passing rough rock and stone walls, spotting the Battle Pyramid in the distance. Ash is sure that today is his day, he's going to beat the final Frontier Brain, and he, his friends, and all of us watching at home will be....

Standing waiting for the twerps as they emerge into Fennel Valley (I bet some of you wish you could emerge into a place sometimes, Gentle Dodgers, but you can't, you can only enter, walk into or trip up over) is Scott and Nurse Joy, the latter of whom promptly rushes up to Ash and... Brocks him!

Well okay it isn't quite the same panting, hunched over romantic desperation as Brock, but Nurse Joy is a HUGE fan of Ash! Displaying something alien to most Nurse Joys - a personality - she also shows off her photo album showing some of Ash's matches in particular tournaments, then asks for his autograph. She spots May and happily tells her that she is a big fan of her too, and has followed her Coordinator Career, including taking photos for her photo album of her Grand Festival Appearance. Brock can't take this anymore though, and rushes up demanding that she pay attention to him too, grabbing her wrists and telling her that his only claim to fame is travelling the four corners of the globe just to meet her! Max drags him away by the ear, and Scott explains to Ash that Brandon can't battle today due to his investigation of nearby ruins. Nurse Joy offers to take them to her Pokémon Centre to wait for Brandon, they have hot springs there too! That's all May needs to hear, she can't wait to get into the hot waters, and they move on to the Centre where Joy shows off her Exercise Gym, a Battle Field, contest arena and, of course, the hot springs! She also shows off her albums of her own victories, as well as meetings with people like Mr Contesta, much to May's.... "delight".

Ash asks May if she wants to help him in his training, but she is more interested in hanging out in the Hot Springs. Luckily Nurse Joy is more than happy to fill in, in fact once Chansey rushes by and grabs off her nurse's cap, she shows that she is MORE THAN HAPPY!

Meanwhile Tam Rocket are walking through the nearby forest, complaining and blaming each other for their inability to track down the twerps. But then they spot the Pokémon Centre in the distance and drop to their hands and knees to get a closer look, treating us all to a delightfully blatant Gratuitous Ass Shot. Meowth snaps at James to,"stop being taller than me," as they look over the training area, inside of which Joy is facing off with Ash, with Brock acting as referee. Joy removes Chansey's cap and it instantly loses its happy, vacant expression and becomes hardcore!

Why yes it seems that it is the job itself that makes Joy and Chansey such pleasant but vacuous people. Remember this, Gentle Dodgers, don't ever get a job and become a productive member of society, you're only truly alive if you're freeloading off of the system and being a bum!

Corphish tries Crabhammer and smacks Chansey in the head with a direct blow, but it doesn't seem to do anything as Chansey comes back to Doubleslap Corphish. The crabby little Pokémon tries to use Crabhammer but gets smacked by Dynamic Punch instead. But as it is sent flying it lets rip with Bubble beam directly into Chansey's face. But the round, "pink thing" Pokémon takes it on the chin and Double Edges Corphish down, Joy shaking her ass about and saying she is enjoying this.

Well then, there you go.

Ash sends in Corphish with Crabhammer, slapping and smacking Chansey with blows as the egg-shaped Pokémon draws in sunlight for Solar Beam. As Corphish comes in closer and closer smacking with its blows.... but it isn't enough, Chansey lets loose with Solar Beam and knocks Corphish out. Brock announces the match is Joy's, and the Nurse dances with delight before slipping back on both her cap and Chansey's, instantly reverting to type and hauling Corphish away to fix the damage that she did!

Team Rocket have been watching from the bushes and are pretty impressed with what they've seen of Chansey. Meowth, of course, think Giovanni might like having Chansey for himself. Why? We'll let Meowth explain in the form of a patented crazy Meowth Giovanni fantasy, and let the pictures speak for themselves!

Yes, it seems that Meowth thinks Giovanni will enjoy getting beaten up by a giant egg bunny, and decide to help "Meowth and friends" have a "big bang" with big bucks! Jesse and James listen to their crazy cat's rambling, incoherent babblings and.... agree!

Back in the Pokémon Centre, the twerps ask Ash if he is really ready to tackle Brandon considering he just got beaten by Joy. They also don't think he has learned from his loss to Brandon, failing to playing to Corphish's strengths. As Ash insists that he HAS learned something, Chansey spots something odd, it's Wobbuffet.... but not as we know it!

Chansey goes to investigate and.... bam, Team Rocket outta nowhere! They bound in with a net as Chansey investigates the Blissbuffet, taking down the tough fighting Chansey with surprising ease before running off followed by the twerps. Jesse, James and Meowth rush towards the Happy Buddha Face Meowth balloon, asking themselves why it was so easy to catch considering how tough it was earlier... and then Chansey's cap falls off onto Jesse's head and it goes into a rage. Nurse Joy arrives and tells it use Solar Beam, and this time it doesn't need any time at all to take in sunlight. It lets rip and sends Team Rocket blasting off again, Jesse slapping a protective hand over her crotch as she ponders how the cap got on her head? Certainly not from hard work and dedication, notes James, and the cap falls away as they disappear into the distance. Landing on Chansey's head once again, the enraged egg-bunny nice once more.

As the sun sets, Brock brushes Chansey and explains to Joy how he wants to be a breeder (snicker) while May watches from a distance. She seems upset, muttering to herself that both Ash and Brock are working so hard to fulfil their dreams.... but what about her? Now that the first Grand Festival is over, what is she going to do? Max comes up and asks if something is the matter, and she distracts him from noticing that she is suffering a personal crisis by asking where Ash is.

Where is he? He's joined Brandon in the ruins he is exploring, finding the Frontier Brain as he is in the process of solving an ancient puzzle. Brandon appears to be in a good mood, due to the fact that he's just figured out that he can rearrange the pieces on the puzzle to solve a mystery he has been pursing. Doing this causing a holographic image of an ancient tablet to be created, and he translates it, learning the location of an ancient secret.

He wants to head off and find a "special Pokémon" to track down this ancient secret, but Ash kind of sorta wants to have that battle he's just hoofed his ass across the country to get. Brandon turns and roars his typical,"NOOOOOOOOO!" before suddenly making a 180 shift in attitude and agreeing to a fight before he sets off to find the Pokémon he needs. He asks Ash if he has been training hard, and warns him not to get too carried away since that is how the King of Pokelantis managed to possess him in the first place. He even goes so far as to extending the courtesy of telling Ash which Pokémon he is going to use! A..... Registeel?

A short time later back at the Pokémon Centre, Ash sits on the video phone to Professor Oak, who is explaining to him a little about Registeel. It is an odd Pokémon, apparently made of a metal not seen anywhere else on earth, and very tough. He asks Ash which Pokémon he will use and Ash responds cryptically, referring to a previous conversation made off-camera and away from the other twerps. Oak agrees to send the Pokémon in question, telling him that it has learned a new move recently. But Ash will need to send one back himself, and apparently it will be Aipom! Professor Oak is VERY excited (VERY EXCITED!) at the concept of getting his hands on a Pokémon with an arm coming out of its ass, but after the transfer is complete, Aipom does not reciprocate the eagerness, scratching the fuck out of Oak's face.

No no, he probably likes it!

The next morning the twerps are concerned that they haven't seen Ash, but then he shows up and explains he was working out with his "old friend", and shows them the Pokeball he received last night. They head to the Battle Pyramid and Ash is introduced first, then Brandon, for their one on one Pokémon Battle.

Out comes Registeel, and it is.....

BIZARRE!

May checks it out with her Pokedex and finds out it is hollow, hard, and has a mysterious food source. How that mystery can still exist when there are trainers who actually have these Pokémon is a mystery in and of itself. But a mystery about to be solved is which Pokémon Ash will use, and it is.... TORKOAL!?!?

Yes, Fire Types have the advantage over Steel, and Scott notes that Ash seems to be going by the book. Torkoal hits a Flamethrower directly on Registeel, dodges a Metal Claw and leaps high to hit Body slam, knocking Registeel off of its feet and onto its back. Registeel leaps back up though and lets rip with a Zap Cannon which meets and explodes against Flamethrower, Registeel using Lock-on to target Torkoal. It uses Iron Defence to absorb the Zap Cannon but still takes damage and becomes paralysed, but Scott notes Ash seems relaxed, and indeed the dim kid proves once more why he may be an idiot in life, he is a savant in battle. The paralyzed Torkoal is still able to fling its frozen body forward and plummet, hitting a Bodyslam on Registeel. The bizarre steel Pokémon reaches out and catches it.... and gets zapped itself by the paralysis!

Brandon congratulates Ash on a clever use of Registeel's own attack against it, but warns he is TOO confident, since he too was prepared for these eventualities. He has Registeel toss Torkoal away, but it seems Ash prepared for Brandon being prepared for his preparedness! He calls for Body slam again, and Torkoal leaps off of the wall before it impacts, crashes into Registeel and knocks it off its feet once again, impressing both Scott and Brandon. Torkoal lets rip with a new move, Heatwave, and blasts Registeel with waves of heat (clever name, eh?). Brandon tells Registeel to use Deflect and it blasts the Heatwave away, and its bizarre, insect-like red eyes seem charged up and full of energy. Torkoal uses Flamethrower and Registeel uses Sandstorm for the first time, Scott noting that Brandon has been holding back this move. The Sandstorm catches up the flames and knocks them back onto Torkoal, and Brandon warns Ash that he is always prepared to use enemy Pokemon’s moves against it, this is his strategy. He orders another Sandstorm, but Torkoal fires back with Heatwave and creates a sandstorm of heat, and the two Pokémon continue to blast against each other, Registeel eventually getting surrounded in a heat-sandstorm that also serves to block it from view. Brandon calls for Zap Cannon, but Torkoal leaps up over it and into the heat funnel, using the whirlwind to increase the power of its Body slam, landing on Registeel and spinning it about. But Registeel is still standing despite the heavy blow, and uses a Lock-on and Zap Cannon combo, the Zap Cannon getting sucked into the funnel but then twisting back thanks to Lock-on and blasting with increased force directly into Torkoal!

Both Pokémon are left standing for a moment, and then Registeel shifts to the side, barely able to keep its footing while Torkoal.... Torkoal is unconscious but standing up! Finally its legs crumple under it and it goes down! Brandon is the winner!

Ash loses!

AGAIN!

Ash calls Torkoal back to its Pokeball and Brandon tells him he battled very well, and Ash agrees but says he has a lot to learn. Brandon congratulates him for showing some maturity and offers some advice to Ash about needing to work on being one with his Pokémon - something that only he himself can do for himself. Up in the stands, Max notes happily that Ash is learning some good lessons down there, as May wonders.... what about her?

As the sun sets, Brandon prepares to leave the Battle Pyramid for a little while to seek out that particular special Pokémon he mentioned earlier. The others all offer him advice while he responds in his dramatic and oddly stilted fashion. It seems that the twerps are going to stick around the Pyramid at the Pokémon Centre while Ash training for his second rematch. Yes Ash has lost, but he will stick around and continue training for yet another shot at his last Frontier Brain.
