Moral Learnt

You can never win; no matter how hard you try there is always someone better.

Having reached the Grand Festival in her first year of trying, May's efforts were nearly sidetracked by the "assistance" of the catty and conniving Harley. Despite his best efforts though, May squeaked through to the next stage of battling, and her first match will be against Harley himself! May is desperate to get her revenge, but also to get past him so she can experience...

...though to be honest wouldn't that work the other way round?

The battle begins and Harley kicks right off with a screech to confuse Bulbasaur and Beautifly while Cacturne fires in a Bullet Seed and May loses big points fast. May counters with Bulbasaur's Vine Whip, catching Harley's Pokémon as they try to dodge, and then Beautifly unleashes Silver Wind on the tethered Pokémon, causing Harley to lose equal points.

Bulbasaur spins Cacturne and Banette by releasing them from Vine Whip and Beautifly accelerates it with Silver Wind, and Harley loses even MORE points. Harley is in serious danger of being DESTROYED by May, but he snaps his Pokémon out of it and has Banette use Torment to prevent the intimidated Bulbasaur from using Vine Whip again. Cacturne tries to Pin Missile the frightened little Bulbasaur, but May affects a stylish rescue with Beautifly, though that is negated by Will O'Wisp chasing after them. Bulbasaur turns around and uses Petal Dance to turn the Will O'Wisp into a shimmering mist that flies over the field.... and Harley counters that by having Cacturne use Pin Missile to turn the Petal Dance Mist into a light show.

Harley is a bit too pleased with himself though, as Beautifly and Bulbasaur fly out of the smoke created by the Pin Missile and combines Silver Wind and Razor Leaf to raise each other’s attack power and knocks Banette and Cacturne down.... and Harley loses the last of his points, he's out before the time even ran down!

HAHA! SUCK IT!

Wait.... ignore what I just said!

Harley scowls in fury and recalls his Pokémon, stomping off the ground and passing a smug looking Drew. Harley growls that he is sure Drew is happy to see him out, but Drew comments back that May was just simply.... better.

BURN!

Meanwhile, Jesse is still trying to get her way into the Festival by impersonating one of the successful Coordinators. James checks out the top 32 and notes Robert, whom they never met the last time due to being chatted up by a lonely old man in a forest. He scored a perfect 100 in the last Appeal Stage, along with Drew (who is too short for Jesse to impersonate), and he uses Milotic and Claydol. Given Team Rocket's track record with dealing with those Pokémon and Robert's perfect score they figure he is the best guy to try and jump and rumble with.

Ash rushes in conveniently as Robert's arm is caught by a metallic claw, and has Pikachu cut him free with Thunderbolt. Robert demands to know who they are, which is really just BEGGING for some kind of motto-based introduction!

"Prepare for trouble, Coordinator!"
"Make it double we'll grab you later!"
"To protect the world from devastation."
"To unite all peoples within our nation."
"To denounce the evils of truth and love."
"To extend our reach to the stars above."
"Jesse."
"And James."
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light."
"Surrender your identity or prepare to fight!"
"Dat's about right!"
"WOBBUH-FET!"
"Chiiiiiime!"

With the motto over, the camera pulls back to reveal that Team Rocket's dramatic pose has left them.... perched up high on one of the supporting points of the Arena! Ash yells at Jesse to give it up as she looks nothing like Robert (oh he finally noticed!) but she insists that she is a master of disguise and can impersonate anyone!

"Like Anthony?" asks Ash, taking the wind out of her sails as she remembers her failed attempt to impersonate the fat ugly loser.

They want Robert's Milotic as well but he isn't about to just give it up, and Ash asks Snorunt to use Ice Beam on them. It tries but the attack fails, causing Team Rocket to burst out laughing at its failure to get it up. Robert tells Ash that he can help it to focus its energy and approaches Snorunt to give it advice, while Team Rocket realise to their delight that Ash and Robert's "only" defence is Pikachu!

Yes, their only defence is that little rat that has blasted them through the air hundreds of times and whom they have uprooted their entire lives to pursue.

Cacnea and Dustox attack simultaneously and for some reason Pikachu just stands and looks alarmed, till Snorunt bravely knocks it out of the way and takes the attack itself. But out of the smoke of the attack a white glow lights up and from the cloud emerges.... an armoured demon from hell!

Snorunt evolved into a Glalie!?!

Hovering in the air like some demonic armoured version of Koffing, Jesse is enthralled, James is nervous and Meowth isn't too pleased with the situation either. Glalie roars out its name and unleashes a blast of Ice Beam fully into Team Rocket and sends them, of course, blasting off again!

Ash and Pikachu are delighted, Ash hugging the armoured monstrosity which seems to be delighted at the proximity of A SOUL FOR WHICH I HUNGER I WILL DEVOUR YOUR MIND AND DRINK THE BLOOD OF CHILDREN SUCH IS MY WRATH THAT I BRING DOWN UPON YOU!

Meanwhile inside the Arena, May is having her second Contest Battle... with Anthony! The fat and ugly coordinator can't be feeling too good about himself considering he's behind on points with 30 seconds to go AND the his portrait on the big screen is a horrible close up on his face while May gets a mid-shot that makes certain to get a good look at her tits.

Hey, the Grand Festival Organisers know how to get their ratings!

Combusken tries to peck and Swalot.... releases Pinsir from inside of its mouth and pinches shut Combusken's beak.... but then time is up and May is still ahead on points, she wins!

Backstage, May and Anthony shake hands so that he can feel the touch of a female for the first and last time in his life, and then Caroline points out that May's opponent for the third stage has just been revealed..... Drew!

HEY TRAINERS WHICH OF THESE POKEMON IS THE FINAL EVOLUTION OF GEODUDE!?! DUGTRIO, GOLEM OR REGIROCK!?! THE ANSWER IS NOT THE LITTLE DIRT DILDOS OR THE LEGENDARY ROCK ROBOT MONSTER!

And so here we go, May vs the guy she wants to get boned by, Drew vs the girl he wants to bone! May uses Combusken and Skitty, and Drew calls out Roselia and..... FLYGON!?! He's raised it up specifically with the Grand Festival in mind, and tells May this is the first time it will ever battle.

Opening with Petal Dance, Roselia sends petals out in a spiral and Flygon flies through it at May's Pokémon. Skitty uses Assist to Flame Spin through the Petal Dance, and Flygon has to burst out as Combusken charges in with Sky Uppercut. Flygon pulls up though and dodges and Combusken falls backwards and lands on Skitty. May looks up at Flygon and the sun behind its back blinds her momentarily, leaving them all open to attack from Roselia and Flygon. But as the attacks burst in, May knows she can brute force her way out and has Combusken smash through the dual attacks with Fire Spin and negate Drew's attack, causing him to lose points and giving May the lead.

Drew is impressed by May's comeback, and she goes back to the well with another Fire Spin. Flygon counters with Sandstorm and Skitty joins in with Blizzard, but Roselia dodges aside and onto Flygon's back, pulling easily clear of the attack and doing some effortless aerial manoeuvres that cause May to lose a large amount of points... and there is only a minute left!

Skitty uses Assist again and Vine Whip launches at Flygon and Roselia which splits them up. Combusken leaps up onto the Vine Whip with Jump and gets a boost, launching itself into the air after Flygon. Roselia uses Magical Leaf Defence, but Skitty stops it with Blizzard and Drew calls for a Flamethrower from Flygon.... just as May wanted! She has it leap into the flames SETTING ITSELF ON FIRE AND DELIVERING AN UPPERCUT RIGHT INTO FLYGON'S FUCKING FACE!

HOLY SHIT!

Caroline is delighted, she can't believe how good May has gotten with Pokémon, and Norman watching at home is smugly delighted. But with 30 seconds to go, Drew is still slightly ahead on points, and May has to go for a quick knockout. She sends both her Pokémon in, but Drew is ready with the advantage of time and has Roselia use Stun Spore to freeze them in place, then sends in Flygon with Steel Wing and..... knocks out the last of May's points!

Drew wins! May loses!

May is shocked and dismayed.... then smiles and thanks her Pokémon for their effort. To her surprise (and Vivian's!) the crowd chants for May thanks to the great performance she gave.... and wasn't that the whole reason she wanted to be a Coordinator in the first place? To put on a show and get applause?

Listening in the wings and utterly appalled is Harley, who can't believe that she lost and is STILL getting applause.... it's just not fair!

So Drew is through to the final four, and obviously wins his next battle as the next thing we see, Drew is predictably up against Robert and his boringly perfect Milotic. There are 30 seconds to go and Drew is taking a beating, almost all out of points while Robert has more than half of his remaining and looks bored with the whole thing. Milotic uses Twister and Claydol comes out of it with Hyperbeam, scoring direct shots on Masquerain and Flygon, and Milotic finishes things off with Iron Tail and knocks out Drew's Pokémon, his points AND all the time.

Robert wins the Grand Festival.

How.... boring.

Given the Ribbon Cup while looking completely disinterested in the trophy that every single other trainer at the Festival has aspired their entire life towards gaining, Robert is the centre of attention. May and Drew stand together in the crowd along with Anthony, and note to each other that there is always someone better out there.

What a lousy message!

That night at the Festival After-Party, May takes a break from the celebrations to take a seat... till she notices what looks like fireworks on the beach. Approaching to see what is up, she finds Drew training with his Pokémon. She asks what he is doing and he tells her that he is getting in some training, even though the Grand Festival Party is happening right next to him. He points out that Robert isn't partying, he's off training too despite having just won the Festival, and that is why he won - because he was always working to improve himself, and that is just what Drew intends to do because he means to win the next Grand Festival. He surprises May by telling her that he hopes to see her there as well and walks away up the beach confident that she is checking out his scrawny ass, telling her that she was good.

May stands watching him go with an astonished look on her face.... and then Ash slams a phallic object with a creamy tip at her mouth!

She squeals at him not to freak her out and he lowers the ice cream cone, saying he just figures she might have wanted some desert. The other twerps and Caroline are there too, and notice Drew heading away up the beach, delighting Caroline who gasps that it is rather romantic that the two of them were on the beach together all alone. May squawks that they were just talking, then explains that Drew has convinced her that she must work harder because she means to be back at the next Grand Festival. Caroline is pleased to hear it but notes that while this is going to require some hard work, the time has come to offer her support to Ash, because now they're going to be on their way to the Hoenn League Championship and Ash is determined that THIS time he is going to walk away the winner.

You better not blueball us again, Ash!
